That's likely good news. But I'm not sure I'd trust a guy named Thad to handle emergencies.

Yeah, I found out about this on the news today. It's a start, but I hope he isn't made to be a scapegoat later.<br><br>"What more do you want? We fired the chief!"

He hasn't been fired, technically. He's simply been relieved of the duties for handling the Hurricane Katrina aftermath. To actually fire him would be the equivalent of shrub admitting a mistake, and we all know how likely <i>that</i> is. <!--emo&<_<--><img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... ns/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Do you know Canadians from British Columbia were at the hurricane site a day after it ended? They came before our own country came to their aid! British Columbia sent specialized trained search and rescue team with search dogs and everything. We turned down Cuba for one-thousand doctors. Umm.. excuse me but are we stupid enough to turn down world renowned doctors to help us? I've heard from my parents that Cuba's doctors are among the best in the world. And when I argue that point everyone points out they're commies. Who cares if their commies(sorry I'm using it as a shorter term) people in China are treated worse than Castro treats his people! And then they say, but poverty is massive. here is no poverty when everyone gets paid the same! sure its not the best system but when you think about it everyone has everything they need. Even though only a small population is rich, we can't all be rich. China's the same f*cking way! If we're going to complaim about cuba we should just break trade with China. Which would hurt us more than interacting with Cuba. And then they argue, well they aimed missles at us during Kennedys presidentcy (I can't spell). That was the damn Russians! No matter what kenedy told us it was the Russians who set up the missles to my knowledge. Castro gave them the land and from what I know had nothing to do with it afterwards. And then finally they resort to "Cuba is just giving us a slap in the face because the Big Bad US is having trouble. so he is trying to embarres us." That just breaks the final straw sure they may be able to be trying to embarrass us but what they really want is to improve relations with the US. Ok i'm going to stop typing now... Sorry for some of the typos.

Perhaps the help was declined simply because those making the decisions were too proud to accept it from a country they consider too 'inferior'<br><br>Cuba is probably trying to put the past behind them where it belongs, and in my opinion the US should be doing the same.<br><br>Re. the China thing, if there is any stronger force than politics it's economics =P

Now I get to worry about Hurricane Rita, the soon-to-be Category 4 Hurricane coming my way...
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...
