 Why can't we have a thread about politics without people whining about stuff?

Quoted for truth. If politicians spent half the time actually getting things done as they did on petty bickering, they wouldn't have anything left to bicker about.

*Random phrase of the day.*

The United States is not a Democracy...It is a Republic.
"Yes, yes I'll admit I tuned you out but in my defense its because I've already figured out you're stupid." Dr. Rodney McKay Stargate: Atlantis

"Did you say mattress?,...I did ask you not to. Now I have to get into the fish tank and sing."

I plan on running for President as well. No, I don't expect to win - my plan is to draw enough votes from all the other candidates so Jack Nicklaus can win.

...if through all this complicated process you can't make the candidate that most people want to win win, then it's all for nothing.
THANK YOU.
The United States is not a Democracy...It is a Republic.
In a monarchy, the leader is whoever's heir to the throne. Not necessarily the people's choice, but at least someone reared and presumably trained by the previous leader.

In a democracy, the leader is chosen by the people. Not necessarily someone with leadership skills, but at least someone who is the people's choice.

In a republic, the leader is whatever random candidate the screwed up electoral system sticks in office.

QUOTED FOR F*CKING TRUTH.

When asked what type of government the United States would be, Benjamin Franklin uttered seven words which should be famous, but really aren't: "A Republic, if you can keep it."

It's strange that in a country that's spoiled for choice in almost every other area of life there's only two political parties with any chance of winning.

Good, except the UK is a monarchy but we still decide who runs our country.

Are we special?

Also, who's Ralph Nader, and why does he have a stupid name?

You can watch An Unreasonable Man to learn the answer to at least one of those questions. 8)
