Cheerleading isn't a sport, it's a performance art. You hop around making yourself look ridiculous in hopes it will entertain the audience; the only difference is that in this case your act is a distraction from what the audience came to see rather than the actual event.

Your post ignores compedative cheerleading. Also I ask, should drama, choir, and other non sport performance activities also be ended? Some people like cheerleading, theres no reason to not let them do it.

"Competitive" cheerleading? If bad jokes were banworthy, you'd be kicked off the internet for that one.

Note that drama et al gets you absolutely NOWHERE in life unless you're in the top 0.005% of said discipline. At least involving yourself in sports improves your overall physical health, barring injury.

If people want to waste their time playing County Idol, that's up to them. But don't waste resources funding/supporting them until you've taken care of the things school is actually meant for.

Would you view marching band "not a sport" as well? Just curious as to your position.

Kazapsky just because you are an unpopular loner it doesn't mean other people don't like school activities. Nobody ever joins a school sport or activity because they think it will take them someplace. They do it for fun and to grow as a person.

As I said most of the resources for these events aren't provided by the school and in cases like football and basketball they are actually a big money maker. Plus if you knew anything about how the real world actually works you would know that these activities are important to students and parents. Students will choose to go to schools that have sports or activities that they want and lord help the school board if word gets out about any of them getting cut. Rumors of activities getting cut will get more people to a school board meating then free cookies and administrative hiring discussion combined.

I can't believe you actually had to ask that. How could it possibly BE a sport?

I can't believe I just read that. I was homeschooled for all of high school and even I know what kind of people tend to become cheerleaders.

Well, it's an athletic activity at any rate. Moreso than golf. Or pool. Or bowling. Or competitive archery. Or *GROAN* celebrity poker. Or being the kid who's put on the baseball team out of pity and then kept on the bench every game.

Believe it or not but the stereotypes in Hillary Duff movies aren't usually the norm.

Also pool is way more physically demanding then marching band.

Oops, sorry. I misread that and thought Dan was talking about cheerleading. :',

Anyway I still disagree with the bulk of your last post. "Nobody ever joins a school sport because they think it will take them someplace"? With the prospect million-dollar pro-sport contracts hanging over their heads? Certainly not all, probably not most, but definitely many. Those who do become pro athletes have to come from somewhere, after all.

As does the way high schools are depicted in the media. I admit the stereotype is exaggerated, but at the same time I know it's based on reality (writers don't just suddenly get the same ideas all at once), and I'm considering the source when it comes to your posts: you've already shown you went to one of the "nicer" schools. Plus the phrase "they do it to grow as a person" is just plain funny to me no matter who it's describing, especially anyone in high school.

That said, I encourage you to consider the source yourself. This is Define "Cynical" after all, and some of us exemplify that more than others.

That's only because of the sheers amounts of alcohol you have to consume during a pool session. Very tough on the liver.

I was reffering to "swimming" pool not "hit the balls in the pocket pool" although if you've ever watched a swim meet you will consider drinking to be a viable option to get through it.

I went to a poorly funded highschool in Upper Michigan. It was the only high school in town but it still remained nearly impossible to get the town's people to vote for a millage to increase funding. Currently the sport's program is funded entirely through donations and until four years ago the football field was sinking. The town refused to pay to fund building a new elementry school until literally none of the elementry schools were usable and the elementry school children had to go to the high school. You can't go to the second floor of the administration building because it will collapse. So don't go saying I went to a nicer school, it was actually pretty run down.

Drunken swimming is also good, but it needs to be in a lake or, at a push, the ocean.

Often nakedness and ladies are involved though, of course, a combination of inebriation and the vicious cold of the water means that it's nowhere near as sexy a situation as it should be. Those danglers go north for winter, I can tell you.

By that definition, bullying is a sport.

At least boxing is mutually agreed-upon. Which is more than I can say for hunting.
