Actually, many act more like chimps. Though, at times that would be an insult to chimps.
I second that. I've never had the joy of working in fast food (though, McDonald's would pay more than I make now, sadly enough), but I worked for Dominos as a driver, and more recently, as a driver for a "classy" delivery service (which just means we charge more, doesn't change the customers). And there are very, very few jobs that will make you hate people as much as food service, whether they're coming to you or you're going to them. Something about getting pre-prepared meals really brings out the worst in people, especially when it's cheap.

Working for tips* is also very effective at making you think in racist terms whether you want to or not, much to my dismay, which is why I'm really looking forward to quitting this job and moving on to something classier.

* = Note to non-Americans - In the US, workers who work for tips (waitstaff, taxi drivers, and delivery drivers, mostly) usually don't have to be paid minimum wage, so our income is directly dependant on the generosity of others. Yes it sucks balls, but it's the way the system works over here, so if you ever hear someone like me whining about poor tips/no tips, now you know why.
When I worked at Hardee's all the managers were cheery and expected competence. They were the type that plans on being a fast food manager for the rest of their lives. It was way more annoying then having a manager who is just a dick.
Wow, sounds like my manager at Dominos, he took his job WAY too seriously. I always wanted to say to him: "Look, no one wants to be a pizza driver because of the job's merits, and no one gets much joy from this job. So, you'd probably have happier workers and a lower turnover rate if you'd stop being such a tight-a** when there's downtime around the store". He had a thing for making sure everyone was actively doing something other than sitting/standing around, even when there literally was nothing to do. I remember one time, it was a spectacularly slow night (only one order in the previous hour), and he kept bitching at people to "get to work". When he finally accepted the fact that there was nothing that needed to be done right then, he decided to have a "pizza beauty contest". Everyone had to make a pepperoni pizza, bake it, and whoever had the one that he thought looked the best was the winner (no prizes, of course, just "prestige", his words). I still want that half-hour of my life back, although mine came in 3rd place out of five [shrugs].

Isn't that kind of, you know, illegal? since when is it your fault your body couldn't fight off the illness? that's one of the dumbest cases of getting fired I've heard of yet.
Their reasoning probably was that his virus could somehow get into one of the letters, and infect others since it is contagious. I wouldn't put such reasons beyond consideration in the post 9/11 world.

Of course, I dunno if he actually handled the mail. Even so, he could have temporarily worked at some other part of the building. :?

Looks like I successfully derailed another thread.

I'm fairly confident I've met the most belligerent person on the planet. I actually called the police because I was afraid she would run someone off the road. I think I actually would have rather served Saddam Hussein.

And you seriously don't even want to know about the messes I've cleaned up. At times, they've had me swearing in four languages.

Still No. 1: They're the odd couple again: George Bush and Hillary Clinton, the most admired man and woman in America. The Republican president and the Democratic senator are sharing the honor for a sixth straight year, according to a USA Today-Gallup poll.
And yes, they mean George W. Bush.

I can hardly believe either result. I think the reporters just want to piss everyone off. Nobody respects both, after all, and many respect neither.
And I don't have much respect for the Gallup Poll for managing to pull this data out of their collective recta. It's no wonder Barenaked Ladies listed "The Gallup Poll will be respected" among the impending disasters they predict for the U.S.
