This can become a fun game. Though I'm not quite sure it belongs in this section of the forum. basically name one thing that went "over you head" but then finally "got it". An example:

I just found out that the Icebreaker mints are named after the term "breaking the ice" between two people.

When I first heard the song Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush I thought the characters of Heathcliff and Cathy in the song were the ones from the comic pages. I thought how she'd written a song about comic characters and their apparent love. I was very young and didn't know about or read the book Wuthering Heights until years later. Then I realised what the song was about.

Excuse me while I cower crimson cheeked over in that corner...

Back when I watched "Sesame Street" (and it still had a lot of things for the older viewers), the Two-Headed Monster looked at the funny papers and pointed out "Ernie Bushmiller." More than a decade later, I came across the name in Prehistory of the Far Side. I had remembered it vaguely as "Ernie Marshmallow."
