I am a United States Sailor. I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and I will obey the orders of those appointed over me. I will represent the fighting spirit of the Navy and those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world. I proudly serve my country's Navy combat team with honor, courage and commitment. I am committed to excellence and the fair treatment of all. (If you don't get it, I'm now an enlisted member of the United States Armed Services. I'll be shipping out June 28th 2005. Afterwards I'll be leaving to Pensacola, Florida to take classes on Aviation Electronics, electrical and computer systems. I'll be gone for 5 years active duty, then 3 years reserves. Feels great to know i'll be getting a free education and bringing in the money hand over fist while i'm in! =D)

Congrats on enlisting, and thanks, too. That takes a lot of courage to do (I know I couldn't enlist!) Good luck with wherever your voyage may take you, and enjoy your time while you're here.

As a former member of the U.S. Army, I salute you and wish you the very best in your enlistement. Take care. Incidently here are a couple of tips that I picked up from My Father who had been in the Army himself, but this could be used in any branch of the service. During Boot camp, there will be a time when they ask for volunteers. Do so. But never again. The first time that your instructers ask for volunteers it's usually a posh or easy thing duty. They do this to encourage people to step forward when they ask for volunteers. after that it's "Never volunteer for anything." Once you hit permanent party or wherever you are gonna be posted after training then of course use your own discression. Another tip, Never make your drill instructor order you to do something, do whatever they ask. With the exception of Volunteering afterwards. Take care, have fun, and be safe.

I'll never join the army. The TA, yes, shooting is a hobby of mine so it would be nice to get paid for it. So long as ur not a medic u rarely get sent anywhere from it. U have to do a few weekends a year, u get a bonus if u do more, and I probably will. 2 more years, though. I wait. I'll be recieving a $3000 sign up bonus the day I ship, too. But the money you make is all yours, except for the first few paychecks, they deduct some due to the Montgomery GI bill. Other than that, it's quite a lot of money, since everything is already provided. No electricity bills, no house payments, no water bill, just clothes and toiletries, which still leaves you quite a bit left over.

(for you British folks I estimate that to be between pounds 11,000 and pounds and pounds 12,000.)

ooh thats not too much EDIT: What you're doing sounds near enough engineer for comparison: Q5. How much do you get paid? A5. Army salaries depend entirely on rank. New entrants - 219 per week / 11,432 per year. Adult Soldier on entry - 258 per week / 13,461 per year. From E-1 to E-4 payraise goes up one rank every 9 months. I'm not exactly sure on how much it goes up, but an E-4 is making nearly $2000 a month, and i'm in for 5 years, so do the math. E-4 Is POTC (Petty Officer Third Class) which takes a minimum of 6 months after becoming an E-3 (Seaman) to achieve. Afterwards it takes a year to get POSC (Petty Officer Second Class) then 3 years to advance to POFC (Petty Officer First Class), CPO (Chief Petty Officer), SCPO(Senior Chief Petty Officer) and then MCPO(Master Chief Petty Officer). The pay definitely adds up in the end, making 18,000 minimum first year, sitting in a bank account, then after I achieve the other ranks, my bank account will be quite fat when I finish active duty. I'm not active duty yet, i'm DEP (Delayed Entry Program) so i won't start to recieve payment until after I ship out.
