My vacation is over now.

Yesterday, (or I think it was tomorrow because of time difference) I left the States to go back to school. I spent about 5 minutes packing and gave it almost as little thought as a bus ride. Than it dawned on me, I live in the UAE for the school year and the US for the summer and I've flown so much that I hardly care anymore. I'm 15 and I've been on at least 55 flights (my first was when I was 2 weeks old). After this year I'm moving permanently to a rednecky little town in West Virginia and now it scares me more than ever. :(

Why do you go to school in the UAE if you don't mind me asking? Seems like a strange place to me...

You shouldn't be scared of West Virginia. Overall most people there are more open and friendly than the national and world media would have folks beleive. Now I'm I saying that there are no crazies there...of course not. All places have their share of crazies. Just look at this forum  Seriously though, I think you'll be fine. No worries.

My dad teaches English as a college professor there.

well, it's mostly the school system and and things like that (from what I can tell I might be going to have to go to summer school no matter how smart I am). I don't even have a birth certificate (because I was born in Japan and you only get them if you're born in the country); I've only learned the metric system; I go to a British school; the subjects I'm taking now are barely offered there; I m going to have to learn Spanish; I have no idea if my background will be socially helpful or the opposite; I'm even starting to fail requirements for college scholarships because I haven't spent enough time in an American school. The list just keeps going and going.

Shinigetsu, hunt down and read a book called "Who Moved my Cheese" by Spencer Johnson, M.D. It is well worth the read, and will not only help with your move, but school as well!
(Might even get you ahead of others a little bit...)
Good Luck!

Yup, recognize a couple of them. Good reads! But remember, "Smell the Cheese often so you know when it is getting old." (From the book hehe)
(EDIT: said a couple, really about a third...)

For some reason I decided to try and read the Hainish and Earthsea cyacles by Ursula Le Guin, right before bunch of books I've been waiting for come out.

The mind does meander in all of us...
**snickers**
...Even when we're in full control.
(EDIT:It's the "Scurry" in us I guess...
**smiles**
...Also from the book.)

Maybe if you keep quoting it I can save some money by not having to buy a book.

Naw, I'll quote no more after this last one, which explains why no more quotes. The book is better than a couple mere quotes from it:
"It is safer to search in the maze than remain in a cheeseless situation."

That is a great read. I was part of a bible study at my church based on that book. Also Shinigetsu...Everyone goes through this when they're thrown into a new situation. Granted it does seem like you're having to deal with a heck of a lot more than most folks. Still things might work out a whole lot better than you could've anticipated. At least I hope everything will work out. It sometimes just takes a lot of will and determination. Good luck friend.

Man, so much Ursula Le Guin.

I read A Wizard of Earthsea in my senior year of HS (last year), but only because it was in my Fantasy Lit class.

I hope you have a very good transition when you do, because I'm sure it'll be weird at first.

Good luck with that, and have fun reading through that list of yours.
