What's the band equivalent of "break a leg"?
Depends what you are playing.

"Snap a reed"? "I hope your valves get stuck"? "May your slide drop off in the middle of 76 Trombones"?

Being a pianist, for me it was always along the lines of "Slam your fingers in the piano lid". Or, as I nearly did once, "Rip a nail off in the middle of a difficult solo."

... it is not an experience I care to repeat.
Just a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction, taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home.

(And there are a lot of wrong directions on that lonely way back home.)
