Well, I have successfully got Linux working with a wireless LAN. Or even the "ndisdrivers: invalid driver!" move. The key was iwconfig and ifconfig. Well when I get back to school I'm going to try to find a verson of Linux that I like. which ones would y'all advise? I have tryed mandrake it did not work too well.

It does not like my sound card (a sound blaster 5.1) at all. which I could prolly fix when I get to school and can look for drivers with out needed to spend 3 hours downloading them. The last time I tryed it, it also did not see my USB correctly. the first time it did however.
