After thinking long and hard about it, I made what is no doubt a monumental decision, at least for me.

I am giving up surfing the Internet for Lent.

That's right, no chat rooms, no message boards, no online comics. I came to the conclusion that I spend way too much time online and that most of that time is a total waste. It has caused me to fall behind in my schoolwork and even miss assignments. Anything that creates that many problems needs to be dealt with. Plus I have a few long-term projects that I need to devote some major time to. A certain traumatic experience last night (I won't go into detail, other than to say it involved learning a few things I really didn't want to know) clinched it.

This will be the longest time I have gone without the Internet since... well, since I first started using it at the library. I cannot guarantee that I will make it the whole time, but I am definitely going to try.

Naturally this will cause some conflicts with my position on the House Rules team. Granted, I will still be checking my email regularly and sending in strips, and I will still be available on IM if anyone from House Rules needs to contact me. But I won't be able to read comments made by forumers or any PMs I might get. If you spot an egregious mistake, feel free to mention it via email; just please don't abuse it. Thank you.

That said, so long until Easter!

I've given up sanity for lent . . . wait . . .

------------------------

Lent is a great time to analyze what frills you can leave out of your life. If the internet is reducing your focus, then this is probably the right time to go without.

Blessings until Easter.

Lent is a Christian thing. It's the time Jesus was dead (I believe?)

It starts the day after Mardi Gras and ends on Easter. It's a period when people generally give up something that's important to them, and then at the end of Lent it's even more precious. Like... when Jesus died and he was gone? And then came back on Easter? Yeah. I'm not very religious, but when I was younger I was forced to church every Sunday. Bleh.

Anyway, it's 40 days long. Ever heard of the movie 40 days and 40 nights? That's the idea. (Horrible movie, by the way, don't see it.)

Actually, I'm giving up Smartfood Popcorn. Not to make it better when I get it back or for any religious reason, I'm just hoping to break the addiction.
