I'm scared, angry, confused, and if he touches either of them I'm going to beat him into the ground.

NEVER do this. If he does something like that, stand in his way, even call the neighbours/police, but don't attack him, it can only make things worse.

Trust me when I say this, if you stand in his way, you need to have the resolve to follow through, or it will only be that much more dire. And I'm with him on that standpoint 100%. I only wish I had been able to do that, when the time came for me. Even if I had, though, I would have been too young to do any good, but it's haunted me since.
