I'm in the third year of university now (Human Geography & Urban Planning) and in that year there is a mandatory trip to a foreign country (US now, or Mexico in February). So, I chose the US and I leave tomorrow from Amsterdam via New York to Chicago. We (some 26 others) stay in the general area around Chicago mostly, although me and some friends will also stay in New York for two-and-a-half day before returning back to the Netherlands.

In and around Chicago, we'll be paying attention to the geography of the built environment and such, and attending a meeting of the City Council of Elgin.

Other activities include a visit to the Sears Tower, photographing things in Milwaukee, the Harley-Davidson museum, some Amish tourist village, and more.

See you all in just-over-two-weeks!

Too bad ya aint coming to Washington...I could give ya the grand tour!
Quick update: Chicago was great (but hot), Milwaukee was nice, Madison was great (bought a T-shirt from the Geography department), we've seen Flint today and right now I' m at Calvin College, a Reformed Christian college where we're staying one night and most of tomorrow. I have taken some 200 pictures so far at least, I'll put them up when I get back in another week.

The first impression of the US was, when we stepped out of Chicagoe O'Hare airport, that the cars are bigger and shinier. The next morning one of my hotelroommate turned on the radio and we found ourselves listening to a radiovangelist. It's hard to reject stereotypes this way

Anyway, we're off to have dinner with the entire group (30 people). I felt a bit ill for the last few days, but better today and I' m trying to eat some more healthy stuff, which can be difficult because we travel alot. More updates when I have time or when I get home. Bye all!
