Alright, so about 7:30 PM yesterday we had thunderstorms, but it calmed down by 8:00. However, around 8:30, I walk outside to discover the sky is ORANGE. o_0 And lucky me, I had my camera, so I'm gonna post a few pics.

This was taken around 8:30 in my backyard. The little stars are rain droplets (it was slighty drizzling.) View faces northeast.

This was taken slightly earlier than the last pic. This is my street. View faces southeast.

This was taken later on in the evening, around 8:45. The sky is now dark red.

If anyone knows what's going on here, please let me know.

They're really eerie.. I liked how the raindrops sparkled with the camera flash.

lol i know exactly whats going on

happened to me last summer. It had been a pretty warm day and it rained. The rain was warm.

Well, anyway I called it a Mercury Sky (looks a bit like the planet Mercury). I actually wrote a story where the main character loves this kind of sky best of all.

It happens for two reasons. (im gonna get a little scientific)

1) The sun sets. As it gets low, there are more dust particles in the earth's atmosphere diffracting the light. The most heavily diffracted are the dshorter wavelengths, such as blues and greens. The reds, being of longer wavelength, aren't diffracted so much. This is why a sunset can look red.

2) With the heavy clouds in the sky, and the sun below them, glowing red/orange, the suns rays are actually being projected up, tinting the clouds.

I've only ever seen two of these 'Mercury Skies' before. One the time i said, and once this spring as i was walking home.

I hope I have been helpful and insiteful to all.
The end is nigh!

It was always shepard's delight/shepard's warning wher I come from. But then, a lot of the land around me is farmland. I guess it figures.

I've yet to see a sky that red. But it looks evil. And cool.

We had a storm the other day and the sky looked evil, but not nearly as ominous as those pics.

o_O Indeed. I think it looks damn cool. Just something about looking into the sky and sensing malice and despair...

Yep, I think Ozymandias got it. Thanks.
Or, maybe The J.A.M. is right. Cause it was humid that day.
