If you could hold your own Furry Convention...

Postby LewisTheTank » Sun May 08, 2011 9:16 pm

...What would you insist it include? How much should it cost? Indoors or outdoors? Full suits only, or would "partial suits" be accepted? (The list of questions goes on, as you may have guessed!)
Basically I'm looking for insight from those who have been to a convention, and with information gained from this, I intend to LISTEN and ADD it to mine. I have dug deep into the net and found tons of information, much of it as valuable as the previous, but first-hand knowledge is best!
I happen to have the time, patience and state of mind to read, ask, explore and otherwise gain this valuable knowledge! Do you have the time for answers?

An outdoor convention could not realistically be scheduled. Most events, and the attendees themselves are very weather-provisional, and any hint of wind or rain would ruin the convention. Fursuits are very hard to clean (not to mention extremely uncomfortable to wear wet), and an art exhibit or artist's alley just could not be stay safe outside under any but optimal conditions. These are all obviously very important parts of a convention. So unless your convention is small and manageable enough to be able to reschedule (30 or less people and in that case how can you really going to call it a convention) outdoors is a no-go.

Also, I've only been to one convention before, but I can't imagine any convention excluding non-suiters or even partial suits. Fursuits are expensive and despite preconceptions of furries, not many furries actually have one. I think a convention with such a rule would exclude too many furries and drive away too many more to ever be successful.

I would assume an outdoor furry con would simply not have fursuiters attending, simple as that. There would be nothing against it, just people wouldn't go to the convention in fursuits, they aren't obligatory after all. Artist corners and galleries could easily be in large outdoor tents (trust me they have very sturdy and very large convention and activity tents available. I've never been to a fur con or any con, but my experience at the National Jamboree for Boy Scouts leads me to believe that you can have all kinds of exhibits outdoors.

Rule 1: If you're going to have sex, please take your fursuit off.

I'm sure few fursuiters do that sort of thing. For one thing, fursuits are expensive, hot, and uncomfortable as they are.

1 - I'd ban fursuits, tails, ears...all that crap as I hate it.
2 - No rave, electronica, house...or any "dance" music at all. If it doesn't contain guitars, it's not played.
3 - Everyone has to tell me how great they think my comic is.
4 - People are "sanitised" upon entry. BO is a NO-GO.
5 - Over 18s only as I'd entend to be drinking the entire con.

What next, a non-alcoholic and non-dairy wine and cheese party? :?

I'll tear up your invite then, shall I?

Also - wine I agree has no place at a party, what exactly is wrong with cheese?

Rooster: Okay then, you can come in. BUT FIRST I need you to take a bath in Lysol
".....Dude this is lame. C'mon guys, lets' go have sex somewhere else"

At least I'd have fun. A whole con's worth of alcohol to myself? Awesome.
