I just noticed from being a member of hmmm... like 5 different forums that there are like two different types of forum thread discussions. One being a thread that morphs from subject to subject i.e basically every thread here on DC and then there are these forums that are completely kosher on there thread topics i.e. Twokinds forum. This isn't a bash on the place but I have to say I find it difficult to talk there especially on the comic discussion forum. I don't know why this is it's just once I make a say a point that's it. I have nothing else to say. I noticed there that they actually try to sticked to the topic which is kind of hard for me since I'm so used to the way threads behave here and on Da.
I don't what it is about places like here and Da that have these discussions that drift from topic to topic that I like. I guess I just feel that it's natural for me to change the subject during a conversation in order to keep fresh and interesting. For me the same can't be said for the strict topic threads. I just see a topic as stale if that is all we get to talk about. I don't maybe it's just me.
A thread about types of thread discussion

This is precisely how I see it. Sticking to one topic should be for way more serious forums, like if we're discussing philosophy. I don't know what DC used to be like, but I always saw this place as just a little casual conversation/goofing around type of forum. So I don't see the problem in the topic drifting.

Look at the forum in my Signature. We're like that all the time there (except in the section for the online text-based games and the Miscellaneous forum).
I'm an admin there, and I've been there for a long time (almost six years now!), so I learned to post more on-topic for the most part originally, so I came here and was surprised to see how off-topic it really gets here. I like this place, and often think of it as my place to kick back.

No, we've pretty much always been a random, ADD, drift-off-topic place. You know... we ARE a fansite for Ozy and Millie.
But yeah, it's more like actual real-life conversation, making it a lot more accessible to people looking for friends rather than looking to discuss specific topics.
But then of course, if we were a LARGER board, we could probably get away with just having like twenty or thirty active threads at any one time, such that we could have the same massive variety of conversation with each thing in its own train-of-thought thread.
