musical talent

Postby mother nature's son » Tue Aug 15, 2006 7:01 pm

Ok.....
Having looked around, its obvious we have many artists among us.
Other than drawing however, does anyone have untold musical talents?
Anybody in a band, and what style music?
Just thought this would make a neat survey. (sorry if this has been done already) -MNS

Well, I compose. (See My Music topic below this one).

I'm also in a band. We're not really going anywhere, but it's a fun excuse to jam anyway. We do a sort of progressive/epic MEHTUL sort of this. (Oh, I'm on drums).

Well, obviously I play drumset. I also know concert percussion (Timpanis, snare drums, xylophones, etc.) I've been playing piano for over 8 years now, I'm getting into Rachmaninoff right now. I can also play a little bit of clarinet (my sister taught me), and a tiny bit of guitar (rock styles).

I'm real big into music, can't draw worth crap, but I can play music. I know how to play most instruments, but the only ones I really play are my saxophones(which I have been paid to play  ) french horn, trombone, and piano(only for music theory) don't know too much of composition, but I do know the basics. I love to play jazz. I'm in 2 jazz bands, one being the schools, the other being a music company called Johny Mack Band. Can play a little classical, nothing like Rachmaninoff, but more into Antonin Dvorak. And I like your music Arloest, really good work.

I'm going to a magnet school to take music recording classes starting next week, I can sing, and I play the guitar crappily :). My friend and I have been working on recording some stuff, I'll probably post it here once we're done with it.

Okay here's something I did about three or four months after getting my electric guitar omg dylan

Well, it takes about a half hour per minute of song but I can find the notes that are playing for the instruments (i.e. reverse engineer the sheet music), good for learning to play popular songs and get a bit of an ego boost :P

I play the viola most proficiently (which isn't very good), but can play (but not read music well with) the piano, recorder (6th graaade), and tin whistle. And occasionally I dabble in the occasional computer synth thing, trying to recreate some of the pieces I played in orchestra or sequence a song I've heard but have been unable to find.

I have the musical aptitude of a doorknob. They didn't even let me play the tamborine in elementary school.

I play guitar and keyboards, and am half-decent on the drums. I'm not in an actual group at this time, but I do go to jams in the area, and I played in a makeshift band for the anniversary festival put on by the company I used to work for. I am completely self-taught...with the help of a guitar chord book and a music theory book.

I prefer to play a rock-ish style...kind of southern rock, similar to the style of Counting Crows. On guitar, I can play soft-rock songs up to more intense rock. I prefer playing rock keyboards, though I do know some classical pieces as well. I've never been much of a sheet music reader; I have never been able to master that. I usually look at a song, then store it in my memory.

Another interesting thing about my music: I am left-handed, however I learned to play guitar on a right-handed guitar! People have told me it has a unique sound, so I have stuck with this. Therefore, I play with the strings strung backward. For my electric guitar, I bought a leftie guitar, and had a new bridge put in so I could string it for a righty.

I might upload some recordings eventually.

I've done some music software compositions, but I don't think I can present them in a playable format here. PlayMusic! is cheap stuff.

I was bass player for a punk band, a post-hardcore band, and guitarist for an emo band.

Tragically, no more.

But I still write my own stuff and play acoustic, though mainly in the style of Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.

Me, guitar. Gibson LP classic.
Biggest influences are calssic rock artists, Zep, Floyd etc...
Sadly, not in a formal band as of now.

I'm more into the writing than the playing.

I'm a sax player, as you might have guessed by a past avatar of mine. Ask anybody I know, they'll tell you that I kick ass. I'm currently in the wind ensemble at Kingwood High School. That's a really good high school.

Oh, and I play flute too. And I arrange some songs I like as instrumentals.

I try to play a guitar of my own. (That's missing the E string, no less) I also do some work using the computer, but nothing near to what could pass as decent.
I'm here, you just can't see me!

Triggerpoint is my not so new webcomic, and currently under heavy work before it resurfaces.
