I post a recording of me humming the Doom track, but that was... disturbing.

Fun fact: DOOMsday is also a fan made version of the DOOM engine that supports, among other things, Open GL, modern network gear, and mouselook, and is rather easy to set up. It also works with other DOOM based games, such as Raven's Heretic and Hexen games.

Of course, you need to provide your own .wad files for any game you wish to run on it, since distributing them with the new engine would violate copyright.

My old band used to play a live version of the song from the first level of Doom 1.

Ooh, I love that one. 3D0 did a really nice remix, too.

It incorporates ACS from Hexen, Hexen's hub system, and a ton of other features. It also has introduced Decorate, which allows any modders to add as many sprites to the game and make their own objects, monsters, and, more recently, wepons without having to re-use old sprites. There is an option to put in high-quality sounds in your mods, slopes, and numerous other things. The wiki has a lot more to tell you, just go to the main site at:

http://www.zdoom.org

I'm still interested in the unlicensed "Simpson Doom."

Odd. I ran through Doom for the first time in a year on the tenth. Must have picked up a vibe.
