And that something is?

Buying a new computer.

After my experiences with this one (off the shelf, mixed luck), I'm looking at a high-end computer, so I was wondering if anyone here knows a good place online that sells gaming PCs / build-your-own high-ends.

Only proviso is that it's Windows XP.

Thanks for any replies

Well, one of the more popular brands is Alienware.

Although personally, I would just build my own.
...If I had the money. But this laptop is actually quite good for gaming. Which is saying quite a bit, as it is not only a laptop, but a Dell. *shudder*

I'd build my own, since I heard it can be cheaper, but I have a deep fear I'd trash it building it

But if anyone has a good parts site, and a good site detailing the ins and outs of building one from parts up, that's more than welcome

I don't know of any tutorial sites, but the best place to order parts is newegg.com.

Drop me an IM and I can help you configure a system, I used to do this every day for a living :-)

http://pcworld.com/howto/bguide/0,guid,14,00.asp how to buy a desktop

somewhere they have how to build a custom pc, the article is from like 2002 so it's slightly dated. Of course anybody can figure out what to get for a high end PC, whatever product has the largest numbers.

Building your own is by far the most cost effective. The place I go for the parts is Tiger Direct.com. They have a good selection.

I go to a local computer fair and get parts cheap. I have a m8 who goes to the tip and buys PCs of them well cheap and just nicks parts.
