How long can we stay on topic?

A place to talk about anything (that doesn't belong in the other forums).

If one were to assume there was no topic to begin with, it would be quite difficult to drift from it.

Then again, to address the need for a topic to stick to, we can try suggesting topics that we are unlikely to drift from and not be one we constantly drift towards, since it'll exhaust our abilities to drift off-topic elsewhere.

I think we're capable of staying on topic for at least 20 posts, but here's the first test.

Maybe this thread should've included a poll.
See?

I dunno, it'd be hard to stay on topic if there was a poll. There'd be too many different things to talk about. Staying on topic is easier this way. ^-^

Might I submit for your consideration the topic of "staying on topic"? In other words roughly how long and how many posts are typical for a posting to stay on topic and whether a temporary divergence from the topic (as long as it gets back on topic (I would figure about 4 - 5 posts before a topic can be delared "Off topic") ).

I'd say two pages (30 posts) max before we seriously deviate to something random.

Most likely sooner.

I think if we really work at it we can keep going till about 40 - 45 posts. Now how many posts shall we make it before we declare a topic "off topic"? I'm figureing a max of 5 posts. Post 1 says something off kilter, post 2 replys with more insanity, post 3 first person replys, post 4 second person replys to person 1, and post 5 someone else jumps in. In order to save the topic post 6 wouild have to bring the topic back to it's original topic from yet another person. What do you think? Or is my defintion too lenient?

Off-topic eh?
When I used to go to the old GMC they had an Off-Topic forum but soon it was the only forum people went to instead of what the place was for and they took it away and that sparked up a few other separate forums to compensate cuz people didn't really care about GMC anymore, they were just talking to each other in the Off-Topic forum.
And yeah, I followed to one called General Chat and after about a week everyone was bashing this Christian 15 year old guy who had the mentality of a 5 year old and came up with some pretty extreme world ideas that would never work so he was really angry and asking that everyone just get along and eventually the peep who bashed him just left cuz they were bored of the place by then and then the forum just died for a couple of week and the Owner chucked a spaz and closed it and said "Go somewhere else!" giving a referance link to the GM-Offtopic.
And I still go there sometimes, no one bashes the guy anymore (though he did have a heap of trouble at some Blender forum cuz they didn't like his 3D pictures) and yeah...
I only go there when I'm bored cuz no one like Ablach Blackrat or ReynardTodFox goes there...

Umm... what were we supposed to be talking about?

AT this point I believe the topic is staying on topic. But I have no idea.

I thought I was confused before But it gets worse all the time.

This really does remind me of the old school off-topic topic from the PlanetCNC forum, 1500 lines and not one went off topic since the topic was to go off topic.
