Any Windows Tech-Wizzes?

I'm going to have a bash at this first, but I thought it'd be better to ask for anyone else's ideas on the matter.

The problem?

My computer thinks that WINDOWS is in the Recycle Bin. But it doesn't show the folder in the bin, or allow me to restore it.

Something's in there, because it has the full bin icon on the Desktop, and when empty and I click on Empty, it says:

"Are you sure you want to delete WINDOWS" blah blah blah.

So does anyone here know what's up? I'm going to run a virus check and then reboot, but after that, I'm stumped.
Oh dear lord sig is fubar. o_o
I don't have a clue, I'm afraid, but it might help people if you told us what version of windows you're running.

That's very wierd since I have recently have developed the same problem. I'm running windows xp pro with Norton anti-virus 2003 editiion. when I send something to the recyclye bin I can empty it, but it still shows the same "full icon" and then it'll ask me if I want to delete windows as well. this cropped up a couple of days ago. I've also noticed some of my favorties have vanished in IE as well. including the link to here. Very strange and I haven't had the nerve to tell it to "tes" delete Windows.

12:34 A.M. (a few minutes after posting). I'm not sure how, I'm not sure why. But my system seems to have healed itself. Things are back to normal except for the missing favorites folder that vanished.

Perhaps I need an excorsist.
We're sorry but the number that you have dialed is imaginary....Please turn your phone 90 degrees and try again.
Although, since someone refered to possessed pcs, it wouldn't be the first time I've heard of it happening. Although in my experience the tell-tale sign is via the internet connection (which wasn't realised until I pointed it out 'um, hang on a sec, you're pc only had an unstable net connection while you thought it was possessed...

Actually, thinking about it, the second demon in that thing didn't do that (and only liked him so essentially made the comp unusable to anyone else, apparantly), so eh, each demon to his or her own, I guess.

Note - 'it doesn't matter if they were really there or not, the point is they were real to him.' And it should also be noted that one of them did kinda move into me from the pc for a short period of time.

Well, oddness prevails.

Did my scan, found an infected file that couldn't be repaired. Quarantined it and rebooted the system.

Problem solved

I sent the thing to Norton before I erased it though.

(Virus name was bloodhound.[something] )

Thanks for the hints and links though guys

EDIT: Agh, stoopid me.
