"Wealth would be laid at one's feet and others were doing all the work …. The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself as saying 'this is mine,' and found people simple enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not anyone have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows: 'Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody."

Here's one of my favorite lines from "Some Like It Hot."

"What are you trying to do to that poor girl, putting on a millionaire act? And where did you get that phony accent? (imitating Cary Grant) Nobody talks like that!"

Jack's signature has always reminded me of this quote from Happy Gilmore
Mine is from Monty Python, in case you wondered.

A person is a fool to become a writer. His only compensation is absolute freedom. He has no master except his own soul, and that, I am sure, is why he does it. - Roald Dahl

Also, just about anything from The Devil's Dictionary is quote-worthy.

Let not thy will roar, when thy power can but whisper.
Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.
Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody.
Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.
There have been 5,600 years of written history and 14,600 wars have been recorded.
Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag them down to your level.
Each person has an ideal, a hope, a dream which represents the soul. We must give to it the warmth of love, the light of understanding and the essence of encouragement.

I've actually been quoted and/or sigged for my own quotes.

"Elections are like watching the Wizard of Oz. All the candidates are brainless, heartless, have no courage...and quite frankly, I wish they'd go home."

"With schools teaching the Klingon language, Jedi becoming a religion, and video games being used for all forms of therapy...it is quite obvious that it is the geek that shall inherit the Earth."

But I do have some that aren't from me.

"Nothing beats the music of a thousand voices screaming in unison." - Kefka, Final Fantasy VI

"I have come to the sad realization that any yayhoo can reach public office as long as they have the right publicist." - Ralph Puke, Puke and Snot

"So...do you want this to be very painful or just SORT OF painful?" - Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z

But my favorite is this one that someone used as their sig...albeit in jpg form from an RPG.

"Ok, I've just about had my FILL of riddle asking, quest assigning, insult throwing, pun hurling, hostage taking, iron mongering, smart arsed fools, freaks, and felons that continuously test my will, mettle, strength, intelligence, and most of all, patience! If you've got a straight answer ANYWHERE in that bent little head of yours, I want to hear it pretty damn quick or I am going to take a large blunt object roughly the size of Elminster AND his hat, and stuff it lengthwise into a crevice of your being so seldom seen that even the denizens of the nine hells themselves wouldn't touch it with a twenty-foot rusty halberd! Have I MADE myself perfectly CLEAR?!" - Wolfram

"To be honest, i don't really give a monkey's ass about it. In fact, i'm kinda getting used to it. To me, it's kinda like a drug."

- America's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan on how he feels about being booed by the audience.
