We don't get hurricanes, we get a tornado maybe once every five years (never a big one), and floods are rare too (at least in the East where I am). Earthquakes happen on occasion (one hit Seattle a few years back, doing nearly a billion dollars worth of damage but miraculously not killing anyone) and forest fires occur nearly every year. But that's still pretty minor compared to a lot of states.

Yes, Tavis, the flood days were pretty exciting. I personally never flood, though, cause I live at a high altitude compared to the areas around me. I just feel sorry for the people that get flooded.
Actually, I do recall an ice day now.

Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

It's flooded a lot down where I live, but thankfully, it's never gone past the front porch. It did reach an even level with the porch during Allison, just enough for the wake of an SUV to let a thin layer of water splash up on it.

Massachusetts is a great place to live, far away from most natural disasters...

We get an occasional tornado maybe once or twice a year [and none seen anywhere near the city I inhabit to my knowledge], and it's been quite a while since we last had a hurricane hit the area. Earthquakes [the kind that would cause any kind of damage] are non-existent to the state as well.

About the worst we get weatherwise is the occasional Nor'Easter* during wintertime.

Nor'Easter = New England word for "Mild/Moderate Snowstorm"

Don't know how I forgot about this....

Spokane did get hit with an ice storm back in 1996. It brought all the fun things ice storms do; tree branches falling down everywhere, roads turned into skating rinks, power being knocked out for up to week in certain areas, bleh.

What was unusual about this is it happened before Thanksgiving.

Vancouver's weather is pretty mild, but we are in an earthquake zone. Other parts of my province had fires and flood in the last year, and our finaince minister had said something earlier in the year about how he would balance the budget come hell or high water, so we're hoping he doesn't say anything about earthquakes.

I loved Perth (where my uncle is a university prof) and Sydney in Australia but I visited in Winter. I find anything over 25 Celsius hot, so I'm not too big on the idea of living in either city year round...

A friend of mine went onto weather.com to check the weather (duh) and found something rather odd...look.

Something tells me there was a slight error with that page at the moment.

I think if there were vpalcanic ash teh visability woudl be less then 10 miles and the temperature woudl feal hotter then the real temerature. I'm shure about the former but not so mucha bout the latter.
