I do like Rawhide and Ghost Riders in the Sky. Are those country or some horrible mutant amalgamation of country and something awesome?

There is the before mentioned Steve Earle and many country songs about how great America is, but those are more on America and not on war.

Really Æron any good country artists combines country with another genre may it be rock, folk, bluegrass or something else.

My favorite is when they combine it with comedy. Even better is when I can't be sure whether they did so intentionally or not. (see: Big & Rich)

Related Fun Fact™: The book I Hate Myself and Want to Die: the 52 Most Depressing Songs You've Ever Heard features only one country song, and the author makes a point of saying that even after being exposed to probably hundreds of country songs during his stint as a DJ for a country station, he never found any others worthy of making the list.
