On a related note, does my camera suck? I looked at some of the pictures on it for the first time, today, and the color is really terrible and everything is blurrier than I think it should be. This is scaled down from a larger image, of course.

Mayhaps your settings are a bit off or odd? There's usually quality settings in the menus and size settings as well.

What kind of camera do you have?

EDIT: it's also a tad grainy, which might be caused by light conditions, but that's not the only thing that does it. I just need to rememeber what else does XD

Octan, I think that has more to do with lighting than it does with your camera, though a better camera would certainly help. That's the same kind of crumby monochrome pictures my camera takes when it's dark outside and the flash is turned off -- and sometimes indirect sunlight in the daytime doesn't even cut it. I try to take all of my pictures in the daytime when there is ample light pouring into a room; it improves both quality and color. Using the flash on your camera will have the same effect, but I try to avoid flash whenever possible because of the huge drain on batteries, plus it can create other nasties like unnatural shadows, and glare on shiny surfaces like computer monitors, human eyes, etc. Also, I have yet to use a camera of which the size of the image files is ever justified by the quality. I've always had to scale down a bit to get anything looking crisp.

Newer digital cameras shoot better in low-light conditions but, as Jason says, no artificial light source short of a photographer's lamp is any replacement for sunlight. Artificial light sources tend to produce low-exposure, dark, blurry pictures, and the flash causes glare on reflective surfaces, poor white balance and very high brightness. Also note that indoor lamps tend to cast a yellow light on things, which shows up quite prominently in pictures - you can use the tungsten white-balance setting to remedy this.

I'd be banned (or at least put on probation) if I posted mine.
