Is there a webhead in the house?

A place to talk about anything (that doesn't belong in the other forums).

Ok, so I'm more or less getting a Statichost account (cheers guys )

I've checked out a domain name as well, and www.woodsforthetrees.com is open which is nice. Is this a good price/deal? = Harelink

yeah that's a standard price, I think I've seen places that charged insanely less though.

...I thought you had already registered woodsforthetrees.com?

No, I was holding off until I got the site done. No use wasting money on a domain name if you have nothing to put there

Bah. All the "popular" domain vendors charge insanely MORE, or at least to my knowledge. Network Solutions, for example, the one everyone seems to know by name, would charge $35 for the same domain, and PairNIC, the one advertized on Keenspot, would charge $20.

Oh, and keep in mind, just so you won't be surprised, that there's a surcharge of $2.50 or so to whatever organization is in charge of domains for being a ".com" as opposed to, say, a ".info" or ".biz". They don't tell you that until you place the order.

GoDaddy is the most common domain registrar I've ever heard of, they're a bit cheaper than the price you quote. And my hosting provider, iPowerWeb, offers domain registration for $2.50/year for existing customers

GoDaddy. I think that might be where I saw the insanely low fee.

*sighs*

Well, in the end I used UK2.com to register the domain name as they were the only people I could find that would do hosting too, and accept my near-useless Maestro card.

Cost me £23 to buy the domain, and register it for 2 years (including the charge as it's a .com)

Just got to wait 2 days for it to clear before I can apply for hosting, then it's all go.

I'm going to have to delve into and near-rape my "festival fund" money to pay for everything. Guess I'm not going to Download this year....
