What I think is insane is...how do you need a faster processor speed on a Mac than on a PC? Aren't Macs <i>more</i> capable per clock speed than PCs?

Despite the fact it uses OpenGL (I think..) Maybe it's just a different of standards when trying to port PC to Mac? If it was originally designed for Mac, it'd go slower on a PC of the same spec, for example. Or, I might just be talking nonsense. It seems consistant though, so I'll go with it. ^^

Macs use RISC processors (smaller instruction set, more operations-per-second), much like a graphing calculator or most dedicated-function CPUs.<br><br>PCs use CISC processors (more instructions, more time spent on each step). Basically, a Mac has fewer instructions, but can execute them very rapidly. A PC has more instructions to automate things, but needs more time to look through the instruction set. So, comparing PCs and Macs on clock speed is like comparing apples and semi-trucks, they're not even close to each other.<br><br>Ruedi, I think your machine will run it just fine, and if it doesn't, you can get your money back :-)<br><br>I signed up and managed to put together a match to my fursona, and I'm wondering who else I know on there, so if you play SL, drop me a line, I'm Felix Uritsky.

Actually, from the Pentium Pro onward, x86 processors used a microprogrammed RISC architecture, and the old x86 code was converted on-the-fly to run on them, thus allowing instructions to be pipelined (artificially raising the clock speed, as instructions took 5 cycles to execute - note that they take 10 cycles on the P3, and 20 cycles on the P4, so it looks like they're cheating a bit).

I barely keep up with this forum (arguably, not even that)... Maybe someday, though.

*bump*<br><br>I thought I might as well bring this up for anyone who has wanted to try it... for July 7-13, <a href='http://secondlife.com/pricing/' target='_blank'>Second Life is offering the lifetime Basic Account FREE</a>. You will still need to enter a credit card for age verification, but you will not be billed $9.95 for membership if you sign up before the offer ends.<br><br>I'm not completely sure if I want to try it yet; but there are a couple other members in this forum that have it, and this seems to be the right time to give Second Life a second thought.

Seems interesting, but with a laptop that has a 8mb video card the game wouldn't work out so well.
I wonder if it'll finally get it's own forum too. I've always wanted a place online where I can talk about O&M.

Well, I figured since I'm in there now, I ought to show you my current av. <!--emo&:kitty:--><img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... /kitty.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='kitty.gif' /><!--endemo--><br><br>I made the t-shirt too... based on another self-portrait drawing. <!--emo&^_^--><img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... /happy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='happy.gif' /><!--endemo--> Too bad I can't change my fur color with this av, but then I'd blend in too much with my tee. <!--emo&:P--><img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo-->
