FFVII is overrated

On the RPG stuff, Disgaea, Jade Cocoon (and Jade Cocoon 2. Very nice battle system in the latter) and the highly underrated Arc the Lad: Twighlight of the Spirits all rock. And San Andres isn't GTA4. I hear that they're not releasing that until next generation.

...Course the best thing in GTA:VC and GTA3 is trying to do insane stunts in the vehicles with poor speed. The trashmaster is a particular favourite of mine.

DD, the point is that everyone has their own game preferences. Not everyone is a GTA fan. Trying to force it does nothing more than make people want to b***h-slap you.

Oh, and I won't even get to play GTA4 until it comes out for PC anyway. If it doesn't have multiplayer support, I probably won't even bother to buy it. Without something radically different like that, it's the same game as always. GTA3 was cool because there were good mods for it all over the place. GTA:VC was cool because it was set in the 80s in Miami, and I LOVE the 80s. I haven't really looked into GTA4, but so far I'm not impressed. We'll see what happens.

[EDIT: I just read the articles you linked to, and I'm not impressed. So far, there's no mention of PC support, or multiplayer capabilities. For GTA4 to be worth buying for me, it has to have a drastically improved PC engine than previous versions, support for multiple game controllers so I can use my racing wheel AND joystick, improved support for high-end game controllers like the MS Sidewinder and Logitech MOMO sitting on my desk, and multiplayer support over internet and LAN.]

If I wanna commit crimes en masse, I don't want it to be hard.

And besides, the best game ever is Super Mario Brothers 3. I will not argue on this.

No way! All those games suck! THIS is the best game ever, clearly/ok.

Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Screw multiplayer, that sort of thing really takes the fun out of any first-person shooter (which is what the GTA games have been since the release of GTA3, first-person shooters with cars).

Even if it has the features I really want, this is sounding like more of an RPG than an FPS, and definitely not worth my money. It might not even be worth the time to download it, especially if it takes more than two CDs.

[EDIT: And from the looks of the screenshots, they haven't fixed the sluggish game engine, nor have they improved the graphics at all. The storyline looks lame, the clunky engine will likely cause low framerates on even the fastest PCs, it's an overall more difficult game, it'll be harder to mod, the built-in radio stations will blow, there's no mention of multiplayer support even on PS2, and knowing Rockstar, they'll only support the most basic of PC controllers, as usual. Pretty sad for a game that originated on the PC. The game hasn't even been released yet, and I'm already disappointed.]

[EDIT 2: I just posted a rant about the whole series in my Live Journal, I'm thoroughly disappointed in Rockstar Games with this version.]

...And mostly in third person.

Like I said, the main thing I enjoy in both GTA and GTA:VC is doing stunts in vehicles you really shouldn't be doing stunts in (eg, Trashmaster) and some of the bugs that don't distract from the gameplay. Yes, I've done a matrix style 'running along a verticle wall' before. Well, it was a cliff, but still.

While I partially agree that stats should, by and large, not be in shooty games (there are exceptions), the eating aspect is one I quite like in games. Well, as long as it's done interestingly. I can't see any game that you don't have to catch your food yourself to have an interesting eating mechanic. If the mechanic doesn't add something to a game (realism is only a desirable aspect if it's a sim. GTA should not be a sim), then it's a bad feature for the game. However, something I do love about San Andres though is that you'll be able to change clothes, from what I hear. Which is, probably unfortunately, an aspect of gaming that I'm really fond of at the moment. You have the coolness factor of being able to decide just what you want your character to wear (which is why I love the feature, actually), and then you occasionally get games which incorperate the clothing not only as a coolness factor (eg, from what I hear, what DMC3's 'chose what Dante wears' thing is) but also as an actual part of gameplay (MGS3's camoflague system, in my view, will freaking rock).

Of course, I'm still waiting for a game to exploit the fact no-one wants to play a main character that looks like a pansy and so give you a double-dilemma by making the ultimate armor/best clothing a really ugly thing/embarrassing to play a character wearing it. Yeah, it's probably a bad thing I love customisable clothing in games

FFVII sucked. FFX sucked. Never played FFX-2 because FFX sucked. FFVI is the best Final Fantasy. Half Life sucked. SMB 3 is the best Mario game ever. Chrono Trigger is awsome. Arc the Lad 4 was awful compared to it's predicessors. My personal favorite game is Final Fantasy Tactics. (Not necessarily the greatest of all time.)
