[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

With my TV/Video Capture card, I can now transfer from VHS to DVD. My brother recommended I use the YUY2 format at the highest resolution of 720 x 480. However, when I try that, I get an error message that "The video device is already in use", when I have no other video capture programs running. The error disappears when I use a resolution of 640 x 480 and lower. I'm using Movie Maker 2.1, which I assume is the latest. However, my brother tells me that there is an option to turn off the monitor or preview screen (the large one on the left), but I don't see any option anywhere that lets me do that.

Any suggestions?

Zacatepongolas!

Until next time, remember:

I

AM

THE

J.A.M. Well, my first question is, can your video capture device handle such a high resolution? 640x480 is the limit on mine (Philips Semiconductors SAA7130 Video Broadcast Decoder (rev 01), according to lspci).

On a side note, can Movie Maker output to an actual DVD format (as in, playable on an ordinary progressive-scan DVD player)?
Since the error disappears at lower resolutions even though it doesn't seem to have anything to do with resolution, my guess is that your capture card just doesn't support the higher res.

AFAIK, Movie Maker will not let you save in any format other than WMV. Try saving it with the highest quality you can, then convert it to MPEG-2 later. (Your DVD burning software should do this for you; if not, you can do it yourself with TMPGEnc.)

Keep in mind that I don't use Movie Maker and I don't have a DVD Burner, so my advice is just "best guess."
