They're typing strings of numbers and symbols that look like letters, usually called "leet speak" or "1337 sp33k" (I can't completely translate it). Most US teenagers type in a crappy pseudo-form of it (using single letters or numbers in place of some words, using aLtErNaTiNg cApS, etc), and I personally think it's all pretty stupid. Why is TRYING to sound like you've had a lobotomy considered "cool"? Silly pop-culture trends. I generally ignore people who type like that unless there's some reason for it (for example, a friend of mine in Florida has eye problems and can't see the keyboard, so his typing sucks).<br><br>(BTW, DarkDragon, the "Shift" key won't bite you, nor will the comma <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... s/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

"1337" also has a place in certain games online, where the "1337" will type things out in that 'code' so as to get messages accross to other people while keeping newer players, or non-1337 people, in the dark. Personally, i usually don't use 1337. I find it a funny thing to through around every once in a great while, simply because it does tend to confuse a few people now and again. I can't decipher all forms of 1337, and there are many varieties and such of it. Quite simply, i don't care enough to learn all variations. I don't use it often, and those who usually use it have a far lesser amount of life than even i do!<br><br>Oh well, made an interesting discussion here if nothing else.
