I'm a raccoon

I once read a very good essay on what separates up from the animals. I wish I could dig it up; it was a really great arguement. Basically, it said that we differ from the animals in the degree of our intellegence, not the style. So what does that mean? Many people argue that we're different because we utilize technology and communications in ways animals do not. However, once you think about it, animals communicate in the same way we do. Maybe not as exact as us, but they have their own form of communication not much different from ours; ours is just more exact. They use technology, too. When we think technology, we think cars and computers and industry and the like. Technology, however, is really just the use of tools. When an animal uses a stick from a tree to get to prey, it's using technology. They use technology just like us, just not to the degree that we do. So what else is left? Culture? It's been established that many animals have cultures within their social behavior.

Animals use all the same intellegence we do, we just take ours to a higher degree. If I can find the essay, I'll see if I can type it up (or at least excerpts). This was just what I recalled from it; I may have left some things out.

Edit: I found a link to the essay online. The Human Difference.

I reccomend reading it; it's relatively short and had some good ideas.
