Hello all again. I have returned from a very long trip to the Grand Canyon. Bloody 7 hour drive too. Started from here in the low deserts of southern Arizona and eventually made our way to the high deserts of mid Arizona and then the truly HIGH plateaus filled with trees and grass at 7000 feet. Thats right, 7000 feet in northern Arizona. And TREES!!! Anyways, at that high altitude my ears felt like crap and having a cold at the time didn't make things any better. Well after an hour drive from our hotel in Flagstaff, AZ we finally arrived to the Grand Canyon... and let me tell you that no picture or aerial video can do you justice until you see it for yourself. The canyon is so huge that your perspective of the other side of the canyon is twisted. Meaning that it is so far away that your mind thinks it is a flat image. Now that is the other side of the canyon. The actual 'drop' goes down 2200 meters!!! 2.5k! I can fit a Lightning destroyer and then some in that drop. I have pictures too but I won't post them yet. Not on the computer yet. Anyways this quickie drawing should give you an idea how I felt:

Well of course it's huge it is the GRAND canyon...if not it would just be the ABOVE-AVERAGE canyon.

indeed but pictures online and TV didn't do it justice. I never expected it to be that big. Hack, on my way to Meteor Crater we passed over 'Canyon Diablo'... and that was no canyon... more like a.... tiny thing. I also never expected the drop to be like 2k meters down. Too bad the weather got bad that day. I really wanted to see the observatory in Flagstaff.

yes... wehn I was in Las Vegas we took a trip to the Grand Canyon... then to the Hoover Dam. It was a tour bus and we were promised we would stop at the Grand Canyon for a while, then take a tour inside the Hoover Dam (not to mention dropping you off right at the doorstep of the hotel/casino you were staying at)

Here's how it REALLY worked out. We went to the Grand Canyon for about 3 minutes, thn we hopped back on and drove to the Hoover Dam. Instead of taking a tour we drove over it. (Actually I forget if the hoover dam was before th grand canyon or after it, cause i don't know what we did after the Hoover Dam. memory is crap)

Then, afterwards, he started dropping people off 5 blocks from their destination because he's a lazy #$&@

AND THEN HE YELLS AT PEOPLE FOR NOT LEAVING HIM A TIP.

Yup, good thing we went to the Grand Canyon for someone's wedding. We got a purdy view of it.

On a side note... there was a huge college essay thing someone made about "the loss of the creature" where the thrill of discovering the Grand Canyon yourself for the first time (like the Spanish must have done, or perhaps Echelon pike or whatever his name was [not sure if he went there]) rather than seeing it in photographs and movies beforehand and then seeing it. It's true it must be amazing to think it's a normal day and then stumble across something that great.... (I just summed up his mini-book/essay in that paragraph . At least what i've read of it, I never got to read the whole thing)

Impressive. Although I would like to see your reaction upon visiting the 8km deep Valles Marineris on Mars:

A canyon the size of the USA. I do know about that and quite frankly I would be scared to death

I hate going to the Grand Canyon...

But northern Arizona is nice. (Lucky me).
