About the picture, from what I can see the hanging down bits would be the undercariage bay doors, and, to me, it looks like the flaps are down. which would be those darker bits underneath the inner wing.
Your half right, I'm very sure that the 22 has flaps in front of the wings too hence why it is very wide.
