Whenever there's multiple resolutions I grab the biggest one and stretch to fit. Even if it's way too big. Unless you're running an old Windows, it does a pretty good job of resampling.
I do this especially if the images differ slightly, IE same size copyright text that doesn't get bigger on bigger resolutions. Then it gets smaller when I shrink it.

I think the 5:4 thing might have been for people who work with vertical documents a lot. Or programs like Flash that have big panels at the bottom. Really, using a widescreen monitor (at "the office") has been nothing but an annoyance for me so far. Too wide to not waste space with one full-screen window; too narrow to fit windows side-by-side comfortably.
That said, I'd be more comfortable with 5:4 and even 1:1 if they were smart enough to "letterbox" the 4:3 modes, like in older fullscreen games.
Widescreen is useful for watching cinematic movies on your HD-DVD player and plasma TV, not so much for desktop publishing and Web surfing.

I'd say tall screens are better than wide when it comes to computers. I never really got the appeal of wide screens anyway, so you can fit more text on one line, big deal. I'd rather scroll less.
Furries? Are they the nutters that pretend to be animals and draw humans that look like animals? Christ, I sink my head into my paws... -Rooster
