Alone in a Cast

Postby Tabris_The_17th » Sat Dec 30, 2006 4:20 am

Not to flood you guys with stuff for my comic strip, but this one is really important to me. Presenting, my entire (initial) main cast of characters:

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45596859/

After months of planning and sketches, I finally have the main cast of characters. In reality, I've had the main cast for a month or a little more now, I just haven't posted any work featuring them. So we can call this the official unveiling I suppose. I drew this for many reasons. 1) I needed a cast picture for dA, as well as the in production "Alone in a Crowd" website. However, I also just needed to draw all the characters together. I felt that finally seeing them all in one place would give me a push of determination to get the project close to the finish. Well it has. I am very happy with this picture. It captured the characters exactly like I had hoped. Sure, there's still some technical gripes, but I AM overly critical of myself.

I wont name each character in this picture. There's a couple I'd rather not name until they are actually introduced in the comic. Then there are others for whom I'm still debating on a proper name. However, we all know our good friends Hope, Faith, Sara - the strip's proper main characters. The rest are their support.

:) Your style is already pretty good, I wonder what it will look like after you have drawn the comic repetitively and perfected it.

DCS should've ended the comic a year or two ago.

Something about the appearance reminded me right away of "El Goonish Shive." I don't suppose it'll be similar, tho.

I shall draw this weekend.

Yeah, me too actually.

Probably not, since I don't read "El Goonish Shive." Can't inspire me if I don't read it

Plausible deniability! Zounds! Wish I had thought of that one!

I've never seen your comic before, but it looks really good. There's a saying: Every character should be recognisable from their silhouette. Your characters definitely are, and not only that, but they look great! (People are usually the hardest things to draw well)

Good job!

Thank you ^-^ The reason you've never seen it is because it doesn't exist yet. I'm actually inking strip #1 as I type this.

But you nailed the "silhouette" aspect right on the head. I approached the characters designs from that lesson and it really makes the characters distinct. I learned that from something Matt Groening said once, and it stuck with me ever since.
