http://www.ozyandmillie.org/art/daysoff ... r>
This is why I'm glad to have a weekly comic which also doubles as a school newspaper comic. Less effort, and more pressure to meet deadlines. (If my strip ever didn't run one week, I'd never live it down.)

Also, it's no wonder Jim Davis meets his own standards; he sets them so incredibly low.

I'm always patient when it comes to free things from people online

I occasionally remind them, but I'm patient and never have the intention of nagging, and that's never when it comes to websites because I don't need to when it comes to websites.

Cute filler, anyway

...Who's Jim Davis?

Actually, I gotta say I always look forward to the sketches - not being as "clean" as the regular strips adds something, I think.

And kudos to DCS for taking time off for the writing - many people don't have the guts to do that, and their work really suffers as a result.

At least they'll be something to look at while he's taking a few days off [his sketches he mentions, which will probably still be better than Garfield]

Speaking of "work," B. I just sent you an e-mail involving a project we've been working on. You think we can work on it again sometime?

Not that professional cartoonists don't take breaks either. "Calvin and Hobbes" spent several months in limbo at one point if I recall, and Universal Press Syndicate offers all its cartoonists two weeks off per year, which nearly all of them use.

I doubt Jim even draws his own cartoon anymore.

By the way, is this the first time that DCS has drawn himself as a dragon in O&M filler art?

Well, he used to be creative, until about 16 or 17 years ago. Heck, even the early 90s had their bright moments.

At least Garfield hasn't been doing it for half a century for more, unlike some other comics *coughfamilycircuscoughcough*

Family Circus is the Full House of comic strips...

I'm glad your standards are higher than Jim's DC. Take the time you need.

O&M is marvelous!

It's yet another Dragon Conspiracy! (Heck, DCS is even drawn as a Llewellyn lookalike!)

And quit bashing Jim Davis! Garfield is the #2 all-time best comic strip behind Peanuts. Yes, the strip is predictable, but you can't deny the fact that Davis is a genius at what he does. Comic strips come and go, but few last as long as Garfield has. (Peanuts, Dick Tracy, Blondie are the only ones I can think of...)

I can think of several other comics that are at least as old as "Garfield." "Barney Google and Snuffy Smith" might be the oldest. "Nancy" isn't far behind "Blondie." Then there's "Broomhilda," "Love Is...," "Prince Valiant," "Andy Capp," "Mark Trail".... Even "Doonesbury" is getting up there, though it does a good job of hiding its age.

"Garfield" is one of the few comics that I have had to train myself not to read when I open the paper, and I still slip. It keeps doing goofy things to draw my unwilling attention. I don't think it's at its all-time worst nowadays; that would be around 1997, when the topics were even more limited than usual, and those topics seemed like they were trying to be boring (Garfield is constantly inert and there's no good entertainment in his life).

Well, I still find it funny (though I hated the movie). Meh....to each his own.
