Has Ozy lost his pentametric stride? At least two lines contain one extra beat... In panels one and two his second phrase has one too many syllables. Dun't they? Yet knowing DCS is good with verse, and so perhaps he "errs" with purpose too. Did Shakespeare not add final unstressed beats (which some would call the "Feminine Ending")? e.g., to show exactly what I mean: "And, Pentametric decimate your e-" And, once again, I quote from Ozy's speech: "For I will take the crown and leave you sigh-" A tricky one, but this one thing I know: Todays strip left me feeling all aglow <img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /> (Huzzah for sonnets <img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />)

I was under the impression that sonnets have an established rhyme scheme Ozymandias.

Traditionally, yes, you're right. There are two main forms of sonnet, the Petrarchan (or Italian, if you must) and the Elizabethan. The scheme in the Petrarchan is: A B B A A B B A C D C D C D or A B B A A B B A C D E C D E whilst the Elizabethan, you will find, is often: A B A B C D C D E F E F G G As you can see, the forms naturally tend towards three quatrains and a summary couplet at the end, although often it is also possible to split them up into a sestet and an octave. This helps encapsulate sense and thoughts, which is typical of the stricter form of the sonnet. But these are advisory, and not rules. Just as my post lacks the octave/sestet split, so it lacks the rhyme. But it does have the 14 lines of iambic pentameter, which, I believe, is all that is needed to qualify its being a sonnet <img src='http://definecynical.mancubus.net/forum ... /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

People gave him breaks, because meter is tough to do. Still waiting for some Dactylic Hexameter slams(watch Llewellyn be good at those).
