"Secularists who believe society has to change to include income redistribution, gay marriage, social promotion in public schools, no public display of Christmas symbols or overtly religious images, and on and on -- these people have aggressive leadership."

I dunno, Willlllllllbur. He seems pretty against gay marriage according to this quote seeing as he's lumped it with his number 1 enemy: the secularization of Christmas.

No he is saying they have aggressive leadership. He didn't say anything negative about them. It is also obvious that statement is part of a longer quote, which you cut off, and it is impossible to know what he really means without context.

Besides his number 1 enemy would be child molesters who he did not mention
I think even he would shy short of claiming that liberals want to legalize child molestation. Ann Coulter on the other hand... she would jump right into that slander.

I guess the "stupid" football player was not able to hide evidence after the murder, was unable to find out which lawyers would serve him best, and unable to invest his money so that he could hire the lawyer in the first place. Football players are all so stupid.
I'm glad we agree on something. Or rather, we don't and I suspect that we'll continue on to argue the same points forever.

Anyway, the character of Jeremy is based on a jock bully that DCS knew at one point. He does not necessarily stand for the entirety of jockdom.
There was the incident where a phone guest on Bill's show mentioned Keith Olberman (who is apparently on Bill's no-no list) and got immediately cut off by O'Rielly who then said "we have your phone number, and we're going to turn it over to Fox security, and you'll be getting a little visit."

That seems a little... unprofessional at best.
No more unprofessional then Olberman calling O'Reilly names. What happened appears to be O'Reilly protecting his show from being called by people who hate him and want to ruin his show. If people called Olberman's show and berated and insulted him then he would react in the same matter. Besides that person was not out argueing him[/quote]

We don't know whether the person was or not or even what they were saying because Fox News has refused to release the contents of the call. And I think threatening to send security men to a person's house is a little bit more unprofessional than Olberman calling O'Reilly names. Oh, documentation for this name calling please. Quotes and et cetera. Links.

And please, private message me your answers. I do not wish to clog this otherwise friendly board. Or we can take it to the I Read This board, which is more geared towards this sort of thing anyway.

No, what I'm trying to say is you're making too many assumptions. The point is, if any of the stuff you're talking about OJ doing was actually done, he didn't have to be the one that did it. Also, who said he'd have to invest money to make enough to hire that lawyer?
OJ wasn't exactly a big money maker in the 90s, and belive it or not people just don't send money to exfootball players because they are stupid or something. OJ had to have invested him money to be able to afford the best lawyer in the world

Anyway, the character of Jeremy is based on a jock bully that DCS knew at one point. He does not necessarily stand for the entirety of jockdom.
He may be based of of someone he knew, but Jeremy is still meant to represent what DC views as an attack on his kind of people. If it wasn't meant to be a broad generalization of a group then he wouldn't say in the strips that Jeremy represents said group

Bill O'Reilly has said that he considers Keith Olberman's name to be an obscenity and he does not allow obscenities to be said on his show. His reaction would seem overblown until you realize that he has a very dry sense of humor, and it was all just in jest. Not that haters would watch the show enough to know about his sense of humor

Doesn't mean he invested in personally. Like Richard said, some people hire a person to handle their money for them. It's called an accountant.

Yes, I would say that Jeremy definetely represents elementary school bullies.

Claiming your rival's name is a joke, huh? And then kicking somebody off your show because they used that "obscene" name is a joke too? Not a very funny joke. And the punchline: "I'm going to send security men to intimidate you," definitely didn't induce catharsis at all.

Was it also a joke when O'Reilly started a petition to get Olberman's show cancelled? If so, then Olberman's counterjoke (signing the petition) was funnier.

Which requires some smarts. How many formerly rich people are there who blew all their money? Lots.

Like I said it is very dry. Olberman said O'Reilly was the worse person in the world, so O'Reilly one upped him by saying he is a swear word. Then he kicked the guy of for mentioning the name because you can't swear on O'Reilly's show. It is ingenious in its sillyness.

You wouldn't need to make a lot of money now if you made obscene figures years ago. Well, unless you went and spent it all.

Not to change the subject for very long but why do you have such a rediculous affection for OJ Simpson? Or: do you just like playing the devil's advocate?

Anyway, I'm not arguing that OJ was so stupid that he couldn't ask around or pick up a phone book to find an attorney.
Although they also claim him to also represent jocks.
Who's "they?" Useful, flexible pronoun?

It's sad in it's immaturity. Also, I think Olberman has switched O'Reilly out of the worst person in the world position. I believe he said "Sorry Bill. I have bigger fish to fry."

Everything Bill O'RLY says is an obsenity to functioning brains...

On the subject of OJ, the fact that a company thought about publishing the book is an insult to decent people everywhere.

How about the fact that if you stereotype gays negativily its bad, but if you do the same with jocks its okay.
This is a comic strip. Comics have a history of generalisations and stereotypes that play to the humour of them. Jocks, geeks, lazy people, smart people, these have all been featured to some degree in comics and been exaggerated because it's funny. The immediate reason comics exist is to provide humour. The smart cartoonist (Herriman, Watterson, Kelly, Goscinny come to mind) can turn the humour he's making into commentary and insightful looks into the characteristics of the types of people he's portraying. Whether Simpson falls into that category I leave up to other people.
But I guess since the writer, and people on this board did not play sports its okay to ignore those aspects. Nothing like catoring to an auidience even if it is full of hypocrasy
Some people here have said they play sports. I play badminton, but perhaps you'll say that that's not a physical sport so it doesn't count. That's fair. However I'm quite certain almost everyone here played sports because they had to in their school years.

To me, that's not saying that you have to be smart so much as that you have to be halfway sane. But smart and stupid shouldn't be on a spectrum: you can be very smart in some ways and very dumb in others. Perhaps most people are that way.

Not all bullies are jocks, and not all jocks are bullies. But jocks make the best (or worst, depending how you look at it) physical bullies.

I used to play soccer in school and still play Ultimate (eXTREME to tha max, word) Frisbee with friends.

On a side, not even tangentially related note: If I had as much money as OJ had, I would have filled a pool with it and swam in it. Like that one guy who had a cartoon about him.

I don't want to get into another one of these arguments. It's called hyperbole. English isn't just the name of a people who live across the puddle.

Let's compromise. A good deal of what O'Reilly says is an obscenity. I hesitate to say the majority is only because I haven't yet managed to record everything that he says at all times. He keeps finding the microphones, donchaknow?

O'Reilly also opposes people saying happy holidays (the evolution of the phrase "holy day"). Strongly opposes. That right there is the sign of a diseased mind. Or a person with a.) too much free time or b.) a compulsive need to stir up outcry and controversy in order to boost ratings.

Yo. Christian right here. Roman Catholic even. And not very opposed to the secularization of christmas. Worse has been done to it by this nation in terms of commercialization then just refusing to say merry christmas will supposedly do.

Indeed, Christmas has begun reaching through the calender to swallow up other holidays. It's almost got Halloween.

Oh shnitzel! I was sent back in time to protect Halloween from Christmas! Instead I spent my time reading comics! ... Meh. It wasn't all bad.
