Some guy created a new kind of math where division by zero is well-defined... it equals a new quantity called (I believe) "nullity"... it leads to all sorts of wacky stuff.

I love math so much, which is a good thing since half of my college degree is math...

I'd sooner pick up a physics book than a book talking about quadratic equations.

I used to read history books for fun. And then I grew up and lost my soul and became another bitter person swaying on the cliff to adulthood. Good times, good times.

I seem to remember an article on that...

Eh, whatever. After I flunked Calc 4 and introductory Act Sci, I moved over to the BCS program; so, no more math.

I sadly don't need that much math.... yet! I am in the Interactive Design and Game Development major. Lots of math sooner or later. Still I am in an art college, little math here...

Try this Image

And for crying out loud, university != college

In the States the terms are pretty much interchangeable.

Only because when your colleges became universities, they didn't want to change their name because they thought they'd lose the brand recognition.

So that's why! I knew there was a reason, and I knew that when I posted the above message that you'd tell me what it was... but I never would have guessed that. I thought it would have been some deep grammatical concept... or lack thereof, perhaps.

Yes it is. But but the section "The origin of the U.S. usage" contains no citations... it could be LIES

This is how I'd do it. 2(2+4) is no different to 2*6, therefore it would be broken down like so:

12*3 = 36
36/2 = 18
18*(2+4) = 108
108 - 3 = 105.

What you do, y'see, is calculate 2(2+4), giving 12, before 12*3/2, which isn't following order of operations.

Let’s just pretend the starting number's a 12 instead of a 3. Sorry about that but it was screaming at me. As for maths, I dislike it pure but am heading towards an MPhys so I can't really escape. At least with physics it is bundled in with quarks, quasars and other fun things.
