I just noticed that Llewellyn got this particular story from the Big Book of Ancient, Semi-Coherent Ancient Wisdom: http://www.ozyandmillie.net/2000/om20000527.html

That's the thing, Lao Tzu lived anywhere between the 6th to 4th century BC, so if Ped Xing was a contemporary than it's quite a feat that his teachings survive. Even if by contemporary Rain is referring to the Hundred Schools of Thought era than the time span is still counted by milleniums. Of course the Lao Tzu here might not the be one of history.Or they both lived some time ago, which is what seems to be implied. :/
I'm just applying logic, take it as seriously as you want.

The dragons in the strip clearly come up trumps in longevity. What's more, there's probably no denying they have a strong oral tradition. Dragons are very secretive. They're not going to tell you all they know. I imagine their libraries are like Jack Benny's safe. (Yeah, yeah, I know. Who's Jack Benny? I get that a lot.)
Perhaps it was dragons who maintained the Library of Alexandria. If so the fires that destroyed it could be explained. The dragons in the strip clearly come up trumps in longevity. I think Ped Xing is sitting in the bathtub.
Well, I suppose it's simple enough to say there are more chinese dragons.
