Storm troopers shot like they did because they had to. If they shot well they'd kill the heroes, and you can't have that can you (not if you're planning to make a bunch of sequels)?

it is the first dog in OM
No, there was the genuine Raine cameo with the cell phone. There was also a "Newshounds" cameo when Llewellyn was gaining media attention for his run for President.

I wonder if this Old West dog is the same breed as Raine.

There's also the time Millie was trying to sell stuff door-to-door to another similar-looking dog for the band.

Yeah, I never got why people cling to Star Wars novels like they do. It's just glorified fanfiction people get paid for.
I wouldn't call Timothy Zahn or Michael Stackpole a fanfic writer...

Ofcourse, SW novels are considered as 'unoficial' - not written by Lucas himself (and thank God not:)) - but it doesn't mean they're fanfictions. These are stories, too big and mostly too good to be a fanfic + George approves 'em. Besides, I really can't see a fanfiction getting professionally publieshed and selled in thousands of copies around the world. Sorry.

edit: Forgive me this offtopic

Heh, and I've read a lot of fanfiction that is truely better not only than the original stuff it's based off of, but better than most of what I can get from a bookstore or library.

And of course, everyone's favorite model juror, Edwin. Although perhaps he's a different breed.

I've never really delved into the print realm of the Expanded Universe... I need to some day.

The term stormtroopers combined with a jibe about poor aim is usually a Star Wars reference.

And the books and things are considered canon as long as they don't contradict the movies and are consistant with each other. Lucas is consulted about the books often times. For example, it was Lucas who put *Like, ohmigaw! Spoilers!*

Chewbacca on a list of expendable characters that the writers of the New Jedi Order series could kill off. */*

You know how many authors you just made roll over in their graves?

So, does Llewellyn HAVE to use a gun in this duel or will he be allowed to breathe fire? Rules need to be clarified, because after all, we can't have unlawfulness in the old west :P

Virago: Movies are canon. Nothing outside of them is, I believe, although LucasArts will, from time to time, work their games into the larger picture of the Extended Universe to fit.
As I recall, every Star Wars book/novel/etc is given a 'canonicity' rating.

Now, the Doctor Who canon... That's where things get fun :)

The TV series contradicts the TV series (UNIT dating, three versions of the sinking of Atlantis, among others), and the TV series is considered the Holy of Holies as far as Doctor Who canon is concerned.

Then you had monthly book releases between about 1990 and 2004, three books every six months between 2005 and now, an audio drama released once a month since 1999, plus several spin-off audio dramas, the comic series in Doctor Who magazine/Doctor Who Monthly/Doctor Who Weekly (and now Doctor Who Adventures as well), some animated webcasts...

...And the current series is referencing some events in some of these as canon, and forms the basis of some of the events in it's backstory from some of them (though nothing that makes any of them required reading, because the BBC aren't allowed to do that).

And then there's the little matter of Shada. Is a half-made, never aired story canon? And if so, and if you take the animated webcasts as canon, which version of Shada is canonical? (though, I buy into the 'both' arguement)

What about the DMV reference? I'm sure they didn't have motor-powered vehicles back then!

They had steam engines, which can be a motor I guess.

The DMV is one of those universal constants, like idiots, bad jokes and (unfortunately) Wal*Marts. No matter where or when you are, there's a DMV nearby. With a good nose, you can smell its rank stench from miles away - though you'll wish then that you couldn't smell at all. Just imagine the smell of a dead skunk, formaldehyde, wet dog, bad milk, the underarms of a parka-wearing hermit in the tropics and burning rubber. Now mix those all together, and you'll have about a tenth of bad a smell as the DMV. Luckily, it's so bad that most brains elect to tune it out, lest they risk complete terror and disgust, resulting in temporary cardiac arrest and a wrinkling of the nose so bad that it causes it to pop off and run away into the next county.

Although I have a feeling the things like the DMV and Imperial Stormtroopers are likely the result of Llewellyn filling in the story with more contemporary references. It might not be accurate, but it's certainly interesting, which is what Llewellyn's stories are all about.
