OK, I looked around and didn't really find anywhere suitable for this. It'll be cool if eventually there's a thread for every character.

Anyway why is it that Llewellyn only has one name whereas his ancestors, such as Percival Smaug Llewellyn have Llewellyn as a last name?

as a second point if Percival Smaug was driven from his castle due to the "flaming peasant incident" and neither he nor any other Llewellyns have any marketable trades, where did Llewellyn's wealth come from?

He may be a self-made dragon, we have seen him working as a shoe shine in his youth.

He's like Cher, he doesn't need a second name. Oh, and just because it's big in my family, I bet he got his wealth from ebay, that's where we get everything we don't use.
I was trying to think of a signature that would show who I really am...but my head started to hurt so I gave up and this is all I had come up with...sorry if it stinks to a higher power, I'm just not good at these kind of things...see, even this is getting too long and will annoy you

*Wonders off to find a better signature*

Well, the wealth bit comes from royalties on fire...I'll dig through the archives and see if I can find the series of strips pertaining to that. It's in there somewhere, I just don't know exactly what strips they were. Or the month or year they were in. Hm.

The basic idea in those was that Og Llewellyn decided to get a copyright on fire back in prehistoric times, and apparently it still stands. I'm pretty sure that was it.

But surely he would have needed more than one name to differentiate himself from all the other Llewellyn's in his family?
and to take you a little too seriously, he was already wealthy by the time he adopted Ozy and that was before the time of Ebay

eta Oh I'ld forgotten about the fire royalties

As Simpson has said a few times, only Llewellen knows which stories are true, and which are made up. Which was a great idea, because he can use that to explain away any inconsistences that his fans might notice.

I don't think that we should put too much store in the story of Fire Royalties, at the end of the story cave-Jeremy's-Dad get's toasted by taking his fire to a flammable cave
Of course with Llewellyn it's possible the general story is true and the twist was just to check if Millie is still paying attention.

Llewellyn fit's into this category.
Calvin never had a last name and his parents never even had names, yet we accept it as it is. Lucy always pulls the football, Road Runner always wins, etc etc. Despite what's said a little repetition can be funny.

I'ld accept that if somewhere it hadn't been said that Llewellyn only had one name. It's just one of those little things that bothers me. Of course he doesn't need one for the purposes of the strip.
Maybe, even though it's not a Llewelyn thing to be insecure or wanting what he can't have, that's why he has a fondmness for hishead of state title
Repetition can be funny hence the discussion of running gag's in the Current strip thread. But Llewellyn's single name doesn't come into this. I accepted the single name as a 'it is what it is' thing until we heard about Percival Smaug Llewellyn.

Maybe Llewellyn got to chose his name later on in life? Perhaps he had a really embarrasing name early on. perhaps his real name WAS snoochy-pie. *snrrk*

Okay Llewellyn, I'm sorry, don't hurt me once you become president!
