What do feel about if DCS did a strip in an anime style? Drawn like in the form of an anime cartoon.

Can he do it? Would it work? Would you like it?

I would like it, it would be strange though.

Anime-style? <img src='

I think it's more properly called "manga-style" when in comic strip form.

I could see DCS doing it once for a joke. He doesn't hate anime as a TV genre; his LJ indicates that he likes "Full MEHTUL Alchemist."

And DFC, I don't know how to answer your quandary succinctly, but Japanese-influenced drawing styles appear in Namir Deiter, Dan & Mab's Furry Adventures, and Poison Wind among anthro webcomics. With humans, it tends to involve wild hair, androgynous males, pointed chins, and big eyes.

I'm up for it. It'll depend on whether or not he wants to do such a thing. Probably since he haven't done a Sunday Style strip recently, maybe he can draw one in such a style in color.

Of course by that definition Queen did some Highlander filk, but I digress. (well, it originated as folk and kinda grew, when it moved away from purely humourous parrody music, anyway... I have a rock-filk cd and a cd from a filk choir cd for example. I also believe that people into technology have picked up the term to describe the parrody music they do around technology as well)

And of course it's 'just' a song, like any other of your songs, for you. I've never heard of a musician or any form of artist setting out to draw in a particular genre, since genres are just used by the people who listen/read/watch/look at the things (or sell the things) in order to help describe them. Surely if someone seeks to make something to fit into pigeon hole x, y or z it weakens the peace, and the best works could be classed in multiple pigeon holes but are best as being described "sortof like".

Incidently - it just occured to me. You state that people with no idea of the source material still quite like it, which seems to me to be assuming that this isn't the case with filk. I own two filk cds, Into the Fire, by Phoenix (a filk-rock band) and Voices Going West, by The n'Early Music Consort, or NMC (a filk choir, mostly unaccompanied). The reason I bring this up is that some of my favourite pieces on both cds are based upon source material I either have no or only passing familiarity with. Also some good pieces of filk are originals rather than being based upon any source material (which, yes, sounds as much like a contradiction in terms to me as it probably does to you, however...). An example is that Boy in a Room is a wonderfully emotive filk based upon the book Ender's Game, the first book in the Ender series, by Orson Scott which I hadn't even heard of when I first heard the song. (freely available for download from
www.filklore.com - extremely emotive)

Hm... well, O&M drawings had been done in all sorts of styles in the "Doodle Mania" Fan Works topic. I kinda thought RiceEatingTiger's designs were interesting.

Ehhh, I'm not sure about manga style. I've never been a fan of it in the first place.

And manga books are typically... Well, more or less the exact size of the Plan9 O&M books, only with a spine along one of the long sides.

And the fact that the manga style isn't one that naturally emphasises comedy but instead emphasises emotion, which means that it always seems to look strange in a funny comic strip to my eyes.
