I year ago I created an O&M database to provide informaiton for all the stips. Mostly how;s in it but other odities. IT makes lookign for stips a lto esier. The porlmebn was (in adition to life getting int eh may of mantaining it) is that I kepet it on ym ewebspace, which I lsot when I stoped payign for it. The result is that it's now only on ym cmputer.<br><br>I am able to keep it updated probably every strip now but I stil have no where to put it on-line. It is a 1.1 MB Excel file coupled with a 1 KB notpad file. I dont; have the skill to shit it into soemthign liek two text files or an html file. So fi anybody is willing to host this I woudl aprecieate it, and I think some others will too. MY plan is that I woudl e-mail it to you on the first of the month and you woudl change the file when it is convient for you. Also I am willign to work with anybody to covnert it itno somethign mroe accesable and/or smaller. I am also giving other people permision to do so, please jsut tell me you're doign it. You dont; have to ask but I woudl aprecite it if you elt me know what's up.<br><br>I think there are at-least two people who woudl apreciate anbody's help with this.<br><br><br>I jsut got soembody to agre to host it. Wehn I know where it is I;ll tell you peoples. The offer to work on it to make it mroe accesable still stands.

That should go with Ghostway's current OM archive since they kind of go together, which I think Felix might have started to host a while back?

No, it's hosted on a generic free host (linked to at the bottom of the O&M main page). I never really took Felix up on the offer to host it.<br><br>Actually, I should probably update it. I'm getting to be as lazy as 5h with updates. >.>

Also one big diference: GhostWay's thread index is in html, my database is in Excel. It woudl be hard ot go together. If somebody wants to make the databse html then by all means go ahead. (I hope to have it up by Monday).

Wait. Excel? Not even Microsoft Jet (i.e. Access)?

Ohhh god no. Excel is much esier to work wiht and if you don;t need any forms or fancy reports it works better too. It's ntohgin mroe thena table and for soemobdy who knows what they're doing (e.g. me) it's much esier to sort and to search. I coudl do it in access but that takes more time then I'm wilign to put into it, probably be less accesable, though microsoft beign wierd ay not be the actual case. (I shoudln;t use logic where microsoft is concerned), and be even larger to host up-load and dwon-load. I went with Excel. I odnt; knwo enoguh abotu HTML, SQL, and other internet languages that are browser freidnly and learnign for this onepproject woudl take WAY to much time. Sorry....

Access is way better than Excel for databases.

I disagree. Access still sotres all of it;s data in an excell like spreadsheat. Microsoft even reuses code. This si a database that is jsut the ifnormation, nothign prety in terms of user interface. I dont; need things like that and people have foudn ti usefull even without the bells and whistels. IF you want the user interface then use access but if you don't excell is a much esier and simpaler way to go and easy and simple apeal to me.<br><br>Anything one can do in access one can also do in excell. It may not be as prety but functionaly it will be there.

Umm... Access is just a database. Excel is a spreadsheet. As such, Access is capable of smaller sizes.<br>And here are some things you can do in Access that are not in Excel:<ul><li>User-based securty</li><li>ODBC</li><li>OLE DB (using the Microsoft Jet driver)</li><li>Transformations to other, faster databases</li><li>Server-side HTML rendering, allowing anybody to view it (even those who don't have Microsoft Office), without requiring a copy of said software product in the first place.</li></ul>
