Long story short: Non-native english speaker, don't get the puns here, would like them explained despite that jokes tend not to be funny when they have to be explained, explaining them would defeat the whole point anyways, and quite possibly doing so would end up being somewhat repulsive. So yeah.

Both of these comics refer to feminine hygene products.

Both? Oh dear. The second one definitely gave that kind of impression, but I thought the fomer would be something else entirely. Thank you.

The first does not refer to a feminine hygeine product. It refers to a laxative. Avery has to go home to use the bathroom.

Nah.. the first one is something that will help get you going again when you are constipated, a laxative. In short Avery really needs to use the potty.

As for the second one... I am not exactly sure as there are plenty of things that would help you feel "fresh." Soaps and other hygeine products (toothpaste, shampoo) make you feel "fresh" in the cleanliness sense, but Avery's more looking for "fresh" in the coolness sense. The fact that "absorbed" appears there somewhere suggests it's it's some hygeine product that's a little more... involved... than soap.

Edit: Erm.. what Roadkill said.

How do you figure about that first one?

The only reason I asked... was because... I didn't catch it myself.

It could be a feminine hygine product, but in the first one, Avery realizes it or something... i can see the logic behind that...

well, either one does make more sense than what I origionally thought was the punchline, so now i'm looking at myself like .

In my defence, I understood all those Far Side comics that everyone else didn't.

...Somehow, I think I give Avery a little too much credit...

Edit: or it could be some cursed jar sold at some creepy store... and Avery read the label just then and got freaked out or something?

...nah!

It was just a doodle that Gary Larson had made. It wasn't funny, but he submitted it anyway, and became famous for it.

at least, that's what he said in his book...

The term 'regular' means that you go to the bathroom properly, and on a regular (healthty) basis. Of course Avery didn't realize this. Taking too much laxative is bad and gives you the runs. Mr. Avery must have taken QUITE a few.

And the next strip was referring either to a Maxi Pad or a Tampon.

I thaught that taking any laxitive when the bowels were healthy gave you the runs, actually.

hmm... what if they redid that strip but with anti-diarrheal instead of laxatives?

... O________o

Lets just put it this way. I hear if you don't go for three days your bowels explode.

I would say "you guys are nasty!" if I didn't find this so darn funny...

Hey, at least I'm big enough to admit that bathroom humor makes me laugh.
