I'm not sure if a "stupid man's O&M" is the right term for this, but I get the idea. The point is that Ozy and Millie, by nature, is a strip that appeals to people who can emerse themselves in a strip and really become a cult fan (hey, look at us). O&M isn't the kind of strip that can get it's full point across to a casual reader in a daily paper; it actually requres some emotional involvement to the characters and story. I think what Dave is going for isn't necissarily "dumbed down," but rather more easily appriciated on a more casual level. I'm glad he's launching a new platform for it rather than changing O&M. If done well, the strip will not be a "dumb" strip, but rather a strip that can be enjoyed on many different levels. Look at Calvin and Hobbes. Someone could appriciate it by just reading it for 10 seconds in the morning paper, and at the same time, one could become emotionally involved with the characters and story. It's a matter of creating a comic that's digestible on many levels. If done right, it won't be "dumb."

You know, when cartoonists reduce their standards just to ge syndicated so they can make just a modest living, it's like the terrorists have won

DCS should've ended the comic a year or two ago.

maybe somebody should pull the opposite of Isoldes TV conspiracy... y'know, maybe raise the taste level on all channels until they get used to it or something...

nah, that'd never work...

...somebody's gotta do something...

I think the bottom fell out. It's all just a gaping, all-consuming void of nothingness and bad taste, and no matter how many seasons of Extreme Makeover they do, they can never fill that void.

... but if millie wre to only reference such a gag as that, sabre, i think it'd be passable. (as in HER hitting stuff with a mallet)

whoa, whao, hey... look, the content of the text has been modified too! heh, funny about how doog snickers at the word "bottum", plus the fact that its true makes it even better! copying and pasting two different "O's" was a good technique! seemles, absolutly seemless!
