I'm not sure if anyone else got the pun, though. Yes, actually, Simpson himself commented on this strip last year when he put some of them in reruns.

Ah. Much to learn the grasshopper has. Much to learn we all do. For instance, why grasshopper?

Maybe it's a subtle drugs reference.

I mean the grasshopper, the song's reference isn't so subtle.

Yeah, that must be the only O&M strip I didn't get at all until DCS explained it. I first assumed he was testing the limits of how much he could get away with just by using a really cute character. (Scott Adams said that Ratbert made writing easy that way.)

BTW, is there anything more to this strip than general childlike goofiness ticking off an older brother?

I got the pun. And found it a really cute strip. The pun only works because of the cuteness of Timulty

Isn't Avery pretty much always on the verge of a mental breakdown?

Hmm... Probably. But thats what happens when you try to please everybody or bottle up everything on the inside or if you're Avery.

Presumably. But remember (probably paraphrased): "Avery's mind is just sharp enough for him to impale himself on it."
