Aging charecters
If O&M characters age, the comic would definitely lose something. But, seeing DC's talents throughout the strip, I haven't a doubt he could find something new to replace what was lost.

Someone earlier mentioned 'Its Walky,' I could really see Millie growing up to have a personality very much like Walky, without all that hidden angst and homocidal rage and all that...

They only aged once and that was during the big style change. The only the thing that's aging is the the drawing style. O&M will never be another day older. Dave will almost completely confirm that.

I dunno. The comic would go downhill if the characters aged to like, college. But then again, it would be cool to see what the characters are like in the future. So yeah, flash forwards would be the way to go.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...
