Ok I'm preparing myself for both coming this Saturday and next Saturday. I have already taken the SAT but I felt that I did bad on it (only 800). I think it was because I was nervous and omitted a lot that I wasn't sure of So I'm taking it again along with the ACT which I have not taken. Since there are quite a few older members here I was wondering what you'd get on yours? Come on...don't let me feel bad my measly score

I haven't taken the SAT's in two years and I couldn't fine my scores but I found my twin sister's and I know I did a little better then her score of 921, and I took the PSAT's last year and didn't do as well as I would have hoped but my total score was 175 and that's pretty good. I;m gonna take the SSAT's or something later this year because I'm in my Junior year (high school) There is something you should know before you start to think your score was low: Both my sister and I are what the school calls 'gifted' in other words they think we are really smart. I don't believe them because everyone in the school I used to go to is smart, like really smart it's scary. *But I don't go there anymore*.

I"m sure you'll do fine, you seem to be a very bright person and I wish you the best of luck.
I was trying to think of a signature that would show who I really am...but my head started to hurt so I gave up and this is all I had come up with...sorry if it stinks to a higher power, I'm just not good at these kind of things...see, even this is getting too long and will annoy you

*Wonders off to find a better signature*

Ah, Christmas trees? Well that's different. I've been painting all day, all I can think about is if my dad tells me to paint one more bench I'll go crazy. (I'm covered in green paint because of this but at least I'm done)

The key is not to ommit unless you are really unsure, kind of having an idea it's better to risk it, after all you get more two points then lose half points

I got a 25 on my ACT's, which I was pretty happy with, mainly because I got 29's and above on the English portions of the test. I got 18's and 19's on the math stuff, and that pulled my score down. But I already knew that I sucked at math, so that wasn't a big deal.

I never took the SAT's--not even sure what is considered a good score for that one.

Hehe, I'm not American so it sounds like you're talking about the Australian Capital Territory and Saturday. I have no idea what these tests are.

Only in part, but yes. SAT stands for Standardized... something... test.
Oh, and 5hifty, this pretty much sums it up here:
Standardized testing
read it through the end... this is EXACTLY what its like, although i don't think you can answer rutabegas ARE COOL to every answer on a multiple choice exam...
Ah, the average score for an sat is 1000, but this never takes into account a students testing ability... I know I choaked on my PSAT, (pre- SAT), but did alright on my SAT. I coulda done better given more time, but as many great people have said: 'meh...'
oh, and the colleges look at the scores, the score does not tell you where to aply.
If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

My suggestion is to take a couple of practice tests, so that you can get into a rythm for the tests. Time management plays a big role in the ACT (though for my test they shortened the English section so that we could take a stupid extra Science section that didn't count, which made me rush a bit). And just being able to get into the 'zone', I find taking an important test like the ACT or a Calc test or something puts me into a trance, which is good.

You can study/cram for the English section, since many of the questions its asks are things that you can just read up on. The math section you have to already know, more or less, just make sure you haven't forgotten it. Remember that there isn't any restriction of what you can have on your calculator (outside of actual test material, if I remember correctly), so practice using some programs if thats your cup of tea. The Reading section and Science section you just have to be able to read really fast. I did the best on the reading, I think probably because some people don't finish. Reading really requires no higher thinking. For some reason I often remember what part of a page I read something, a skill usually not that handy (as I don't necesarily remember what page), but it came in real handy for the ACT.

And when you hear people complaining and so forth before the test, remember its not like a regular test, it's a curved test. You want everyone else to do poorly, so take it as a good sign if you hear others voice their worry. Just suck it in and let it boost your ego.

I actually took a ~4 session/~8 hour ACT prep class. I got one higher on the ACT I took after it, but that was all I needed. The second time you take the ACT you're likely to do better on it.

The second and last ACT I took was Spring 2002, after my junior year, so some things might have changed.

SAT = Standardized Aptitude Test.

Almost all American colleges require either the ACT or SAT test scores.

The most important thing is to relax and concentrate...I know that's easier said than done, though.

A few random test-taking hints I remember hearing somewhere:
- It's a good idea to guess if you can eliminate one or more answer - but if you have absolutely no idea, then skip it.
- Your first guess is often correct (not always-but if you're debating between a few options, the one that sounded right first is the one to choose).
- Don't spend too much time on one problem. If you can't figure it out, go on to something you can solve and come back later if you have time. There aren't any penalties for skipping questions, you just don't get the points.

I took the SATs a few years ago, and I did pretty well, so *something* I did must work!

Good luck! And remember - the only thing these tests really measure is how good you are at taking tests. Even a genius who gets nervous and distracted during tests isn't going to get a perfect score...and plenty of colleges know that, and don't pay too much attention to them.

Hope that helps
