50 Books in 2009 Challenge

Postby Æron » Wed Feb 11, 2009 8:18 pm

I've been really slacking off lately on my reading whilst my to-do list of books to read, currently 200+, continues to grow. So I'm going to start cracking down and reading more. Goal: A bare minimum of 50 books by the end of the year, about one per week. I think making my progress public will keep me from slacking off.

Anyone want to join in?

Rules of the thread: Each person is only allowed ONE post in the thread, which should be edited as books are added. No junk posting or posting by people who don't actually want to participate. Mods: Could you please sticky this? At least temporarily. If it flops and no one participates it can be unstickied.

1. Kingkiller Chronicle Day 1: The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss
2. The Chrysanthemum and the Sword: Patterns of Japanese Culture, Ruth Benedict
3. Modernization, Cultural Change, and Democracy: The Human Development Sequence
4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams
5. 1984, George Orwell
6. I Am Murdered, Bruce Chadwick
7. Blue Heaven, C.J. Box
8. Enslaved by Ducks, Bob Tarte

This is a good idea, but have you guys updated it since Feb?

Also, inspired by you I vow to read at least ONE book by the end of the year. I'm already half way through a Bill Bryson one, so that's good.

What about now?

I've read three, and I'm actually reading a fourth! Who knew it could be so fun?

In other news, I miss having internet and cable.

I kinda wish I didn't have internet. Cable doesn't really matter, since I have it but literally never use it.

I've read like... four books this year? That number is painfully low, and I hope to rectify the situation by reading more in the coming year.

Who's ready for a new one? should we start a new thread? I'll actually go for it this year.
Apologies to everyone. Except Fritz.
First of all, Fritz, do yourself a favor and research your own answers before you post.

Sure, why not?

I need to redeem myself.

Congratulations to Hyperion, the overwhelming victor and only one to cross the finish line.
Scurry, scurry, Scurryous! You might just be the murriest. You certainly are the furriest! Hurry! Scurry! Scurryous!
