Some non-drug related updates:
My editor, John Glynn, brought Scott Adams's "2 of 6" rule to my attention.

Executive summary: there are six basic things that make humor writing good, and a comic strip, or anything else with the aim of being funny, has to incorporate at least two of them.

I drew this, as a visual aid.

Things wrong with this:
1. 'Naughty' and 'clever' have very similar expressions
2. Similarly, 'bizarre' and 'recognizable' are dangerously similar
3. damn it DCS enough with the shaving I'm SICK OF THE SHAVING
4. I think DCS kind of missed the point of the actual article
5. Oh yeah there's a naked little girl who's giving me a seductive grin what is wrong with you

I decided it was worth a chunk of my afternoon to just doodle my central character and let her speak and define herself.

I've given her a name, here, too, or rather she's volunnteered one. Not sure yet how I feel about her having one, but the fact that she's giving me that kind of feedback now is a good sign.

For what it's worth, I preferred her without a name.

Also for what it's worth I kind of want to punch this kid.

I really like the first pose there.

As I read this, I couldn't help but think "You know, I've seen a strangely similar diatribe against God before. What is DCS ripping off?" And the it hit me: that stupid Raine Dog strip. The contents are significantly different, but the way the 'argument' is constructed and the way it basically ends on 'believers are idiots' is pretty much the same. Damn. Thing.

I like the idea behind the comic. That's the sort of thing kids might wonder, if expressed possibly above their philosophical and historical level.

Not so much a fan of the naked time.

I like the second one. The joke about a kid understanding why a nick name is affectionate but not actually liking it tickled me. The little nude girl not so much. You can't do naked jokes with a human girl. It feels icky.

Says the very link you posted.
At the turn of the 21st century, Coppertone revised drawings of the Coppertone Girl so that they would be less revealing in an era of heightened sensitivity regarding pedophilia.

The 'panel' where she's looking at the star is cute.

Her name makes me think of Pat Metheny Group. I approve.

1) Girl got syndication for newspaper release? unfortunate...

2) I... oddly like the direction these doodles take, even though I know there's the pretentiousness behind it in the artist... he does portray the innocence and curiosity of a child well, here.

3) HORSE. (?)

Personally I find the whole strip pantsless embarrassingly predictable, probably because I caught this show's matinee when the cast were wearing fursuits and tophats.

Your remark reminds me of the old Infocom text games back from the 1980's. There was the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy game written by Douglas Adams and Steve Meretzky, and the later unrelated game Stationfall writted by Meretzky alone. Both games have the common factor of using footnotes (the player sees a "Footnote 6" reference and types in that to get more information), and Meretzky acknowledges the fact by saying that as the author of both games, he had "the right to rip off his own ideas."

Emma Jane is a seriously lame name, glad her friends called her "Girl". Mary Jane would rock though
